so i’ve seen people complain about others making their Vs/OCs and how they’re worried it’ll take away from the game and ruin the hype for them and what the game is all about…

let people make their fucking Vs/OCs. they’re excited and they’re absolutely allowed to make their characters and bring them to life. we’re getting a game where we can make our own character and throughout it we’ll be able to shape and mould them to how we want to play them.

also, i’ve seen people complaining about how, as soon as keanu reeves was announced to be playing johnny, people starting shitting on others because they were getting excited that they might be able to romance him. yes, i understand the whole “don’t put keanu on a pedestal/thirst over him and become so obsessive it becomes problematic” but again, let people be excited that it might be possible for their Vs to have a romantic relationship with johnny. being able to form relationships (romantic or platonic) with other characters in a game is important to a lot of players. it doesn’t make them any less of a gamer or any less of a fan.

is it harming you in any way? no.

so stop gatekeeping and being all high-and-mighty and let people be excited for something that they’re passionate about

Actually, it just boils down to how you naturally communicate. There was a study done on this specific social situation that showed that, while neurotypicals usually respond to a person telling an unfortunate story about themselves with something along the lines of “that’s awful” or “that must feel so X,” neurodivergent folks (specifically autistic, although in my personal experience it applies to cousin conditions like ADHD and BPD) were more likely to respond with a story of their own. To us, the first one feels hollow and token, where the second one actually shows that you know how they’re feeling, and that you’re truly sympathizing rather than putting on airs, but to a neurotypical person the second one usually feels like monopolizing the conversation, or even more drastically, getting into a pissing match over who had it worse.

It’s two drastically different neurotypes getting their wires crossed when trying to communicate with each other.
