here is our bad guy in the opera.  a king from irish legend.

some initial thoughts:

-the structure of the opera is definitely singer-friendly.  there is a lot of text to dive into and interpret.

-my character is doomed from the moment he opens his mouth.  it's exciting to say the words and there is a definite feeling that i'm playing the part of a legendary character.

-in talks with my colleagues, we are all struck by the fact that the characters can't be pigeon-holed into types.  even with conchobar being the "bad guy", his motivation is clearly defined and logical.

-the use of magic as a literary device adds the feeling that i'm in some sort of alternate "dungeons and dragons"-styled experience.

the music is quite pretty too!
