Conclave is so funny like Cardinal Lawrence spends most of the movie verbally reaffirming that he does not want to be pope and no he does not want it and no he is not fit to be pope and then when he finally decides that maybe being the pope wouldn't be such a bad thing and he votes for himself, God hates it so much that he violently explodes the wall of the building they are in as a loud incorrect buzzer
everytime a reluctant father figure who's adopted a young girl he met along the way tells her "I'm not your father" it takes one year off my life
the amount of times I said "this could all be resolved if they just fucked" while watching saltburn...
my average ao3 experience:
"Violence isn't the answer"
I beg you, go and read The Good Lord Bird by James McBride (or watch the miniseries with the same title, it's really good and starring Ethan Hawke as John Brown).
it's from the perspective of a slave boy who was freed by abolitionist John Brown and the following years as they travel the country and kill slavers. it ultimately ends in the infamous 1859 raid on Harpers Ferry, which was a failure and Brown was hanged as a result but it ultimately served as a catalyst for the Civil War.
the question "will all this violence even be worth it in the end?" is constantly lingering around.
and by the end of the book, it grabs you by the shoulders, shakes you, and screams, "THIS WILL BE WORTH IT!! I KNOW IT MAY SEEM LIKE THERE IS NO HOPE AND NO FREEDOM IN SIGHT, BUT IF WE DONT TRY WE WILL NEVER FIND OUT IF THAT FREEDOM EXISTS!!! WE WILL KILL AND STEAL BECAUSE THE ONLY LANGUAGE THESE PEOPLE SPEAK IS VIOLENCE, SO WHY ASK FOR MERCY WHEN THAT IS AN UNKNOWN WORD ON THEIR TONGUES?"
My favorite quotes are these;
watched Mac finds his Pride and just. Frank looking so proud in that last shot was what really got me. Mac is finally freed from all this shame, thinking his mere existence is a sin. and Frank is far from being a great father role to anyone but. him looking so genuinely disappointed when Mac's father gets up and leaves and the contrast of him being the first to start clapping and the last to stand up. he says "I get it" and there are tears and pride in his eyes because you are never too late in life to understand. even Frank, who is... yk.. Frank.. is more understanding in that moment than Mac's own father. and when Mac is sobbing in God's arms and she whispers "it's okay it's okay it's okay" and he looks like a child clinging their parent and his father may not accept him but fucking Frank of all people is there and.. "I get it"
*me on a space ship with my crew and the only way to get us out is by fucking the xenomorph and also I'm already taking my clothes off and looking suspiciously joyous* alright guys, someone's gotta do it... I guess I'll take one for the team
