sorry just thinking about najiba and nabil viewing saube as the group’s leader, based on, yes, saube’s relationship with their actual leader, but also in light of their views on leadership in general. because in halkifell, the “leader” is not someone who dominates or expects people to fall in line or wields authority against the masses. the leader is their beloved cousin, who grew (on purpose!) into the role, who is stepping up now with love and support. the leader is their friend, someone who guides with the guidance of others, someone who is wise mostly for understanding she doesn’t know everything, or even most things, and relies on her friends and family for what she lacks. and all of this could describe saube, too. the parallels between saube and mahety will make me cry, actually.

actually in thinking about this, one of my players commented on the spoken lyricism that a certain group of ifrit/fire genasi npcs have in our game. and their speech patterns haven't been 100% conscious choices on my part, but it stems from two things. one (that i realized in the moment during the game) is obvious: this is a society mostly made up of bards, specifically storytelling bards. oration and poetry and saying beautiful things all come naturally to them and i try to embody that. but the other part that's not as obvious is that primordial in my world is based on arabic (ignan is specifically egyptian arabic). and so i lean on the lyricism and turns of phrase etc etc that is distinctly arabic. again, not super consciously, and i don't know arabic very well so it's not to say i do it as well as a fluent speaker might. but i do think that plays into it in terms of their speech patterns. anyway language is neat, dnd is neat, books are neat, I'm having a good time.
