I’ve always thought you could make a pretty good case for his Monkees character being neurodivergent, at least, taking in consideration he existed on a TV show 50 years ago that even by the standards of the day wasn’t exactly “woke.” (Yeah, he was the dummy.)
Not to belabor this, but it is a topic I find interesting. Being a man born in 1942, it’s unlikely he would have been diagnosed with anything. I’m okay if he wants to self-diagnose given that Asperger’s given that it’s no longer a standalone diagnosis and has been folded into ASD. I agree with your original post – I see it too (I also see a touch of OCD in him), but it’s really none of our business, I guess.
@nakedpersimmon: To add, the first time I noticed how incredibly awkward Peter is was during his Rachel Maddow interview shortly after Davy’s death. I’d seen enough of his interviews that I know it’s not, er, his greatest talent, but usually he’s with another Monkee (or two) as a buffer. Usually I chalked it up to nerves or whatever, but solo on Maddow’s show he was just painful to watch. It didn’t help that she herself was a little discombobulated.
