Lucky Stars (Nalu Oneshot)
Hey guys! Back with some more content after what, like 2 weeks of nothing? Anyway, this is a request by @notacelestialwizard. Hope you like it, but it’ll probably undergo some more editing. I’ve been fighting writer’s block but I’ve thought of some ideas that I hope to God I actually write lol.
"Get up get up get up get up get up!"
Natsu clenched his pillow and squeezed his eyes shut, hoping that Lucy's annoying screeches would go away. When all he did was groan in response to her, Lucy began to shake him aggressively.
"Ugh, Lucy, the celebration is at night, why are you waking me up so early in the morning?" He groaned, voice gruff. Still, he stayed on the couch. Lucy tsked before grabbing his arm and trying to pull him out.
"If you don't get up now, you'll meet your doom on the floor." Natsu groaned again, this time more in exasperation than exhaustion, and got up. It was so early that it was still dark outside.
"You know, when you asked me to stay the night at your place, this is not what I thought was gonna happen."
"Today is the Celebration of the Stars! All of Magnolia is going to hike up the mountain and appreciate how wonderful the celestial bodies are," Lucy began, completely disregarding Natsu's statement. "There are so many people in Magnolia. Did you honestly think that we are going to let them take all the good spots? That's why we're going to be there before the sun even rises," Lucy said smugly, as if she already claimed her precious spot on the mountain.
"That means you have to get up and get ready. Do something with your hair, it's a mess," she demanded. Natsu stuck his tongue out at her, but still went and fixed his hair. After brushing his teeth, he came out to see Lucy on her way out the door with two baskets full of food and a backpack with supplies.
"Chill out, Luce," Natsu said, still too tired to get excited. "They're just shiny specks in the sky. I've been to all of these, they're not as great as they're hyped up to be."
"I'm just gonna ignore what you said," Lucy stated. She wasn't going to let Natsu ruin her mood, not when it was her first Celebration of the Stars. Being holed up in the Heartfilia mansion deprived her of many opportunities like these ones. It was bad enough that she got sick on the day of the Cherry Blossom Celebration. Nothing was going to stop her from attending the Celebration of the Stars.
"You're gonna break your back," Natsu muttered before taking a basket and the backpack.
While on their trek, the two laughed, joked, and told stories, making time fly by. Once they've reached a clearing on the mountain, the sun was directly above them, signaling noon.
"Are we gonna eat now?" Natsu whined. "I'm hungry. Stop starving me."
"One minute." Lucy laid out the blanket on the medium length grass. Natsu sat down and grabbed the basket, seeing a lot of sandwiches, various fruits, sweet potato chips, and more snacks. The basket was filled to the brim.
"Luce, were you expecting someone else?"
"Nope. Trust me Natsu, when you're full, you'll notice that the entire basket is empty." And she was right. Natsu chowed down three sandwiches before Lucy could finish one. Natsu always thought Lucy's cooking was the best. The enchanted baskets that kept the food the right temperature preserved the deliciousness of the meal.
"Just wait 'till dinner," Lucy said with a mouthful of sweet potato chips.
"Don't talk with your mouth full," Natsu chastised with a mouth full of fruit.
"You're one to talk, hypocrite!" Lucy objected.
"Sorry, can't argue right now. I'm about to stuff my face again." Lucy rolled her eyes as Natsu kept eating. She was full after one sandwich, a couple fruit, and some potato chips. The amount Natsu was able to eat and not explode dumbfounded her. Slowly, her eyes drooped and she fell asleep, Natsu soon following suit. Waking up extremely early and hiking for hours took a toll on them, and they needed to be fully awake for the night.
The sound of commotion didn’t wake them up. People were piling onto the clearing, preparing for the celebration. The sun was going down, so the people were coming out. Blankets were scattered everywhere, with families and friends anxiously awaiting nightfall. Natsu and Lucy, however, were sound asleep, unconsciously cuddling with each other.
By the time Natsu woke up, the stars were out and the sun was no where to be seen. People were barbecuing, playing, and having a good time. Shifting his gaze to Lucy, he saw how peaceful she looked. There were no creases in her forehead because of worry or any signal of discomfort on her face. This is how he wanted to wake up every morning. Natsu wished the moment lasted forever. He almost didn’t want to wake her up.
“Luce.” Natsu nudged her, trying to gently wake her up. “Come on, you’ve been waiting for this moment. Don’t sleep through it.” Lucy’s eyes peeled open. At first she stared at Natsu in confusion, but when she realized the time she shot right up.
The scene was more beautiful than she could ever imagine. It was way different than seeing it from Magnolia, or from her room in the mansion. There were more stars than she could count, twinkling brighter than crystals. They weren’t just stars, though, and Lucy knew that. They were spirits. Celestial spirits. And she felt their love radiating from each and every one of the constellations.
“It’s gorgeous,” Lucy croaked, voice thick with emotion. Natsu payed attention to Lucy instead of the shimmering sky. Her heart was shining brighter than any star in existence. Like a moth, he was transfixed by the light. Lucy’s light.
She turned to face him. With a beaming smile, she asked him, “Are you seeing this?”
“I’m seeing it all,” he faintly uttered. She turned back to look at the stars. Natsu, overwhelmed with emotion, blurted out his thoughts.
“Lucy, let’s date.”
The way he casually proposed dating threw Lucy off. “Wait, are you serious?” She was skeptical of whether or not he actually was asking her out. If it was, it was literally the least romantic way to word it. Lucy couldn’t help bursting into laughter.
“You’re laughing but I’m serious!” Natsu said with a smile on his face.
“Oh are you now?” Lucy teased, still giggling.
“This is literally the worst rejection ever,” Natsu said while laughing. “You’re not even taking me seriously!”
Lucy kissed Natsu without any warning. His eyes were wide in shock at first, but after a second he seized his moment and deepened the kiss. After a couple seconds, she pulled back. “Who said it was a rejection?”
“Scratch all of what I said about the Celebration of the Stars, this night is awesome.”
Through the rest of the night, Natsu wondered how he actually got Lucy to be his girlfriend. Though he was grateful and very glad, he knew that saying ‘let’s date’ was a godawful way of doing it. He looked up, thanking his lucky stars, when the lucky stars actually responded. A few of the Stars seemed to twinkle a little brighter than the others. Finally, it hit Natsu. The constellation was Leo the lion.
“Loke, you’re a real one.”
