Naluween Bonus Day: Wizard
Sort of... following the prompt?
“Where are they meeting us again?” Lucy asked, leaning over the counter where she was sketching out their plans for the evening. Natsu was just on the other side, in their living room.
“Didn’t I tell you?” He asked, before letting out a wail. “Ahhh! Igneel, you got me!” The fluff of his bright pink hair disappeared behind the sofa as he collapsed, vanishing from Lucy’s line of sight. She let out a sigh. The Cathedral. That’s right. She quickly folded her slip of paper and made her way around the corner into the living room where Natsu was laying on the floor, laughing.
“He’s too little to understand what you’re doing,” Lucy said, leaning over to lift their ten-month-old son from where he sat on the carpet.
“I know,” Natsu smiled up at her, still laying on the floor, “But when I was little Igneel used to do that. I used to push him, and he’d fall over, just like that.” Natsu sat up as Lucy sat down on the couch, holding her son close, running her fingers through his fluff of pale orange hair. Igneel’s twin sister, Layla, was playing with blocks on the other side of the room. “Do you think I’m a good dad, Lu?” Natsu asked, watching their daughter.
“What? Why that question all of the sudden?” Lucy frowned.
“I just… I remember Igneel and I think… I could never be as good of a dad as he was for me.”
“That’s nonsense,” Lucy huffed, “You’re an amazing dad.” She slid down to her knees on the floor in front of him, holding out Igneel. “And your son and daughter love you very much.” When the little boy caught sight of his father’s face a bright smile touched his lips.
“Dadada!” He reached out with little, chubby hands and Natsu grinned, pulling his son into his arms.
“Now! I think it’s time we get the kids ready for the festival,” Lucy said, standing, “After all, we don’t want everyone else waiting for us.”
“They won’t be,” Natsu grinned. “We’re the ones with twins, but Juvia and Gray are always late. Gajeel will insist he doesn’t want to go trick-or-treating, but Levy will make him. They’ll be late too.”
“And… Erza?”
“Oh, they’ll be early.”
“They always are,” Lucy smiled, pulling Layla into her arms. Natsu was already working his way down the hall towards their bedroom where the costumes for the kids were stored.
“Is it going to be weird this year?” Lucy asked, as they began wrestling Igneel into his dragon costume.
“What?”
“Having kids this year,” Lucy said. And for every year after.
“Why would it be weird?” Natsu asked.
“Well, I mean…” Lucy frowned, “Different. It’ll be different. Last year I was pregnant, and before that we didn’t have any kids. We just got to celebrate with our friends.”
“I guess it is different,” Natsu frowned, “But… it’s gonna be a good kind of different. I’m really glad I get to share this holiday and all the others with the three of you.” He offered her his signature grin and then went back to wrestling his son into his costume. “Woah! You look super cool, buddy! Like a regular dragon!” Lucy smiled. This man is mine, and I love him more than anything. That singular fact made her feel warm, happy. Layla was beginning to fuss in her arms, babbling nonsense words. Lucy carefully fixed the little bow in her wild pale pink hair, and set her down to get her changed.
They met their friends in front of the Cathedral. Erza and Jellal were already there, with little Keon, who was three months older than Igneel and Layla.
“A fairy and a dragon!” Jellal said, offering the Dragneel twins a quick greeting. “That’s rather fitting, huh?”
“Natsu insisted on the dragon,” Lucy laughed. “What’s Keon dressed as?”
“A little warrior!!!” Erza held up her son with immense pride. Keon was decked in ridiculously well-crafted cardboard armor.
“Hi!” Levy and Gajeel arrived, with Galena perched on top of Gajeel’s shoulders. She was giggling, holding on tightly to her daddy’s hair.
“Aww! Galena’s a cat.”
“She makes a very good one too!”
“Hey, everyone,” Gray jogged up, out of breath, followed by his wife, who was carrying their daughter. “Juvia couldn’t decide on which costume to put on Neve.”
“They were both so cute!” Juvia gasped, “But Juvia finally decided on a butterfly. Ahhhh! She’s so cute!” She squeezed her daughter tightly. Gray sighed.
“Juvia, you’re going to suffocate her or something. Can we get this over with?”
“Come on, Gray!” Lucy laughed, “Tonight’s going to be fun! Just like it’s always been.”
“Maybe this year Natsu won’t burn down a tree,” Erza grinned.
“He better not,” Lucy huffed.
“Come on, everyone!” Levy waved them on, “The festival’s this way!” As they moved together through the streets of Magnolia, Lucy caught her husband’s hand in hers and laced their fingers together. Natsu looked over to her with a grin. Igneel was perched on his shoulders, patting the top of his head with shrieks of joy.
“Hey,” Natsu said, stopping in the middle of the street, “Our kids are gonna grow up to be pretty amazing wizards, huh?” Lucy leaned forward, still holding tightly his hand and to Layla, who was at her hip, and kissed the dragon-slayer quickly.
“I love you,” she whispered. Natsu leaned in to steal another kiss, squeezing her hand.
“I love you too.”
