Happy National Thomas Day!
Keeper Name Days
in some countries, thereās a tradition called Name Days. it basically means having a designated day for each given name, and itās celebrated sort of like birthdays (but it usually isnāt as important, it depends on how the person wants to celebrate)
so, since we already have fanon Keeper birthdays, here you have a list of what day the Keeper Crew would celebrate their Name Days on
SophieĀ ā September 20
Fitz ā February 25
BianaĀ ā November 6
DexĀ ā February 9
Marella ā September 8
KeefeĀ ā November 26
LinhĀ ā September 2
TamĀ ā July 4
WylieĀ ā May 28
Okay, so in addition to the time telling differences we talked about earlier, I have just learned that yāall in the US donāt have name days?!
For those confused, this is from Wikipedia:Ā ā A name day is a tradition in some countries in Europe, Latin America, and Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox countries in general. It consists of celebrating a day of the year that is associated with one's given name. The celebration is similar to a birthday.ā
Itās my name day today and I mentioned it to Mick and she was very confused! :D
Also, my name day falls on Womenās week which is a week that consists of only womenās names. Funnily enough, my friend group from uni (there are four of us) all have our name days on Womenās week. ^^
I have never played Overwatch, but I found it neat that itās Torbjƶrnās name day on March 9th.
Iāve never heard of name days before, but I hope you have a happy one. Is there a list somewhere that tells you when your name day is? What if you have an unusual name thatās not on it? Iām very curious to learn more about this. :)
The day has been good (despite my grumpy wake up, lol), thank you!Ā
Yes, there is a list and also basically all the calendars here are printed with the names for corresponding days as seen on the picture below. Though, this one doesnāt show all the names. They usually only print the most popular ones but you can deduce from it what other names belong on that day because they tend to be similar. For example, for today the 20th itās only showing the more popular name Reetta not my name: Reeta. (Yes, Iām salty about this. And also I keep getting called Reetta and itās f*cking annoying. Sorry, mini rant over.)
The names and dates are decided by the University of Helsinkiās Almanac Office. They review the list every year or so and add names that have become more popular and take away names that are not used anymore. My sonās name was added when he was two years old.Ā
If you have an unusual name you can choose what day you celebrate on. Usually you choose one that already has some similar names on it.
From wikipedia: There are also many traditional beliefs attached to various name days, especially involving the weather and the appropriate times to perform seasonal agricultural tasks such as planting some particular crop. For example, there is a saying that āJaakko (James) casts a cold rock into the waterā, meaning that on Jaakkoās day, July 25, the waters start getting colder, which is not far from true on average.
I hope this enlightened the name day thing for you! ^^
