Sufyān ibn Husayn said: وَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ:

“I spoke evil about a man in the presence of Iyās ibn Mu'āwiyyah ذَكَرْتُ رَجُلًا بِسُوءٍ عِنْدَ إِيَاسِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ

And he looked me in my face, فَنَظَرَ فِي وَجْهِي

And said: “Have you done battle against Rome?” وَقَالَ: أَغَزَوْتَ الرُّومَ؟

I said: “No.” قُلْتُ: لَا.

He said: “What about Sind, or India, or Turk?” قَالَ: فَالسِّنْدَ وَالْهِنْدَ وَالتُّرْكَ؟

I said: “No.” قُلْتُ: لَا.

He said: ”So Rome, Sind, India and Turk are safe from you but your Muslim brother is not safe from you!?" قَالَ: أَفَسَلِمَ مِنْكَ الرُّومُ وَالسِّنْدُ وَالْهِنْدُ وَالتُّرْكُ وَلَمْ يَسْلَمْ مِنْكَ أَخُوكَ الْمُسْلِمُ؟!

So I never repeated that again. قَالَ: فَلَمْ أَعُدْ بَعْدَهَا.
