NAMM 2013: Panel Discussion: Past, Present and Future of MIDI.
MIDI's appeal was originally limited to those who wanted to use electronic instruments in the production of popular music. The standard allowed different instruments to speak with each other and with computers, and this spurred a rapid expansion of the sales and production of electronic instruments and music software. This intercompatibility allowed one device to be controlled from another, which rid musicians of the need for excessive hardware. MIDI's introduction coincided with the dawn of the personal computer era and the introductions of samplers, whose ability to play back prerecorded sounds allowed stage performances to include effects that previously were unobtainable outside of the studio, and digital synthesizers, which allowed pre-programmed sounds to be stored and recalled with the press of a button. The creative possibilities brought about by MIDI technology have been credited as having helped to revive the music industry in the 1980s.

A cool session from Steve Stevens and Pete Thorn from NAMM 2013.
Terrible sound - typical built in phone quality, but thats what it is. Some really great playing though and that small live club feel we love!
Check out mr Thorn at Youtube!
Cool stuff about drums sounds/mixing, new gear at namm and lotsa other stuff.
This year's NAMM show was a little different for Prosound Communications. We partnered with Phil Jones of Phil Jones Bass Amp to help showcase each respective product line up. We also were on hand to help launch their new Air Pulse guitar amplifier. At the booth, both Xotic and Phil Jones artists came to play and test out gear. There was a lot jamming happening and we captured it! Check out the footage of great performances from artist like Chris Duarte, Larry Kimpel and Scott Tarulli. We even included a special interview with Mr Phil Jones himself. Happy viewing!
