i rly enjoy watch s1 mystreet/mcd because it’s so under stimulating. just a girl playing minecraft roleplaying with herself and the occasional va. the stories and characters are familiar and comforting. it’s a really nice way to wind down at night. there isn’t tons of action or lore. just 10-15 min long slice of life stuff. very cool.

my post-mystreet garrence headcanon is that they open up a burger joint called "just two guys with a crazy idea" where they serve $40 burgers (fries come separately in a wire basket and cost $15), play exclusively the greatest hits of 2010-2016, and grow out their hair long enough to do man buns. they'll give you the spiel of how they've lived such crazy lives and traveled to so many unique places that inspired their cuisine but it's genuinely the most mid burger you'll ever eat in your life. people ask if they're in a relationship and they'll say some shit like "we're sworn brothers" even though everyone knows that they sleep in the same bed despite the home they're paying mortgage on together having at least three bedrooms. this isn't because they think that it would hinder business or that they're purposely hiding themselves - this is just the way they've always been. they're probably getting married later this year for "tax benefits". they will share the most tender and loving kiss you've ever seen at the ceremony. there will be a framed photo of their wedding in the restaurant. black skinny jeans are permanently glued to their bodies.
i love michi. i love thats she pranks and harasses the group for the love of the game. i love that shes bitchy and fake and a cute catgirl which probs make people underestimate or stereotype her, which she uses to her advantage. i love that she meddles for sport. her teaming up w an actual criminal for s4 was kinda weird. but early mystreet michi was very fun. i wanna know what its like for her having no friends and just harassing this same group since high school for no reason. whats going on in that messy head of hers.
okay but all things considered, mystreet butchered laurence and garroth so bad. garroth went from strong and silent devoted with all his heart loyal knight to bumbling and pushy and borderline creepy. laurence lost whatever charm he had and just kept the creepy flirting, but in this universe aphmau isn't nearly as open to entertaining his advances & still he can't take a hint. and all their depth as characters is reduced to NOTHING! other characters like aaron, zane, travis, and even katelyn get to keep their hard edges from mcd, though softened to be more appropriate for the setting. but not garrence. gone is garroth's angst with being the son of a corrupt lord, gone is laurence's struggles with having his humanity violently stripped from him and constant wrestling with his shadow knight identity, gone is the fact that both these men sacrificed so much for the people they loved, including aphmau - and the things they did for aphmau, they did it with the understanding that they couldn't (nor did they want to) "force" her to love them back. i kinda feel for the og laurmau/garmau shippers watching early mystreet as it aired and being like "who tf are these guys??" this is most definitely the result of mystreet starting as a light hearted non-canon spinoff of mcd where nothing really mattered, inspired more by shoujo anime than high fantasy, but it would be interesting to see if garroth and laurence get to go beyond goofy sidekicks in the final installment of mystreet.

zane x nana is not the sort of ship i’d usually be super invested in, but i am because of how ‘slow’ the development is. is that maybe just because of mystreet not having an outline and being written episodically, often with only a few days between each episode? possibly, but for what it is, i think it’s cute, and i like that there’s a foundation for it as far back as season one, with aphmau pushing zane to spend time with nana back when he was super socially anxious. they don’t get together for another 6 seasons (plus 5 million side story episodes). it doesn’t feel rushed… it feels like how an actual friend group relationship would happen…. orbiting each other for years, the thought never crossing your mind until suddenly you’re spending a lot of one on one time together and the feelings bloom!
i do think its insane how aaron is introduced in mcd as this nonchalant bad boy type then in early mystreet thats how the guys see him but aph knows hes a sweetheart and genuinely good guy (but hes still buff and mysterious) and then by the time starlight rolls around hes a domesticated subby wolfboy who GENUINELY cannot say a single line without WHIMPERING. jess cooked w that ngl
