Would you mind doing a chemistry rating from most to least on insecure’s pairings? Particularly Issa’s pairings and Molly and Andrew?
Daniel and Issa
Unpopular opinion --- I’m always about the unpopular opinion when it comes to Insecure, lmfao --- but they had the best chemistry on the show; they had that balance of a consistent undercurrent of tension but an ease of knowing each other so well and that history; they had that never-quite-away vibe that they really want me to believe she and Lawrence have. I believe they’re friendly and flirty at once with that charge.
Molly and Andrew
I can’t find that many gifs of them but Molly and Andrew have that kind of romcom screwball comedy chemistry, like the playful teasing/challenging, there’s a bit of a verbal banter and they’re super cute to watch onscreen.
Issa and Nathan
I think we’ve obviously seen Issa happy and kinda corny with Daniel and with Lawrence, but I think we see her like actually giddy with Nathan and the two of them do the instant-connection vibe really well where I did think the escalation of their relationship --- as in Issa’s response to him ghosting --- to happen way too quickly for me to really sympathize with her but I could understand her getting in her feelings quicker than she expected because their chemistry was strong.
Lawrence and Issa
OK so offscreen, I think Jay and Issa have a really nice chemistry, I don’t usually watch the wine downs but I’ve seen a couple where the two of them are talking and they riff off each other really well and they seem really comfortable with one another but onscreen that chemistry translates to platonic. I believe them as friends,
like their entire reunion episode was boring to me because it felt like the narrative trying to push a Daniel-esque, they-never-quite-let-go-of-each-other-friendly-but-flirty-undercurrent-of-charge vibe and it just felt like two friends spending the day together, which would’ve been fine if that was the point. And I think they miss their emotional beats. With the exception of Lawrence finding out Issa cheated because that was good acting, every time they try to do the quiet heartbreak, the quiet angst, it feels detached, I don’t feel them feeding off of each other’s energy.
It feels put on.
