writing one page a day, every day, for a month #onepageadaychallenge
this is a writing challenge inspired by this quote by author stephen king
“write a page a day, only 300 words, and in a year you have written a novel.”
in it's simplest form, this can be any form of writing - planning, drafting, editing - as long as it is a 'whole page worth' of writing.
i love how simple this is because - unlike a set word count - every page will have a different amount of words on it, and i think just aiming to fill up a page with whatever you need is a lot easier to achieve than a set word count.
and because this is based on pages, this is a hand-writing friendly writing challenge, which i know you can still count words when hand-writing but it's admittedly a lot more work and so, simply filling one page of a notebook is a much easier goal to achieve.
this is a great preptober exercise if you’re looking to do nanowrimo in november as well!
i created this challenge, intending for it to go for the duration of october, but i intend to attempt to do this for 100 days... and possibly even the full 365 days. if that doesn’t sound intimidating, you are more than welcome to join in with me!
i would love to see your posts under the #onepageadaychallenge tag which i will be tracking!
“Who’s Anabelle?” Trixie asks, looking to Fyn for help, but the botanist has none to offer.
She’s too focussed on the short body elbowing through the ground, emerging in a burst of unkempt tawny hair and unusually gangly limbs.
“Vesper?” Fyn’s eyes are wide, her heart pounding in her chest.
“Anabelle!”
Vesper’s tackle of a hug damn near sends them crashing to the ground. If not for Trixie catching Fyn to stop herself getting taken down, it would’ve.
“Anabelle?” Trixie’s got one eye cocked as she looks down at Fyn, and she finds herself blushing.
“Yeah. Anabelle Fynley—you never saw my nameplate? Or read my locker?”
Words written today: 15,222
Total nano word count: 25,632
I totally didn’t have to look up how to spell my own character’s first name, what’re you talking about
And with that, guys, gals and nonbinary pals, it is done! Not only have I completed today’s goal, but I’m all caught up (and slightly ahead!) on my nano word count. Take that, November
can i get a roll call of who’s gonna take a shot at nanowrimo this coming november
if anything we can hold each other accountable for daily word counts but either way it’d be nice to see who else is gonna attempt it
Haven't posted in a while, so here ya go! (Contains Sexytimes)
Sebastian quickly saddled a horse and headed across the small village. In the little cabin, he lit the lamp and then coaxed the fire in the pit to start. It began to warm the small space. He stood and removed his coat and boots. And then he sat and waited.
Gail came rushing in with a swirl of cool air and leaned against the door. She laughed giddily and shed her dressing gown. “When I was sixteen, I met a boy in a barn on a night similar to this.”
Sebastian grinned and held out his hand. She stepped into his arms and their mouths connected for a brief moment. He stepped back and began to undress.
With expert fingers, Gail removed Sebastian’s many layers. She splayed her hands out on his bare chest and looked up into his face.
He smiled and leaned down for a kiss.
“Beautiful.” She whispered as he pulled away.
“I’m not the only one, you know.” He picked her up by her hips and sat her on the table. He buried his fingers in her hair and kissed her again. His other hand slid up her shift and caressed her thigh.
“You could bring that higher.” She whispered.
His mouth moved lower on her neck and his hand moved higher on her thigh. She spread her legs wide and pulled him closer. The room warmed another several degrees with the heat coursing through their bodies.
Gail pushed him away and hopped off the table. She removed the last of her clothes and he followed suit. She chewed her lip and dropped to her knees in front of him. She wrapped her hand around his hard length and stroked him slowly as she pressed several kisses to his stomach and thighs.
Sebastian clutched her shoulders and gasped. “Gail, wait.”
“Am I no longer your poppet?” She whispered. She licked him base to tip, causing him to grip her shoulders tighter.
“I don’t want to come all over you before I’ve had a chance to please you.” As an afterthought he added, “Poppet.”
She took hold of his waist and pulled him onto the cushions. “Then please me. Take your time. We have all night.”
“You leave in the morning.” He pointed out as he took her face in his hands.
“I can sleep in the carriage. It’s a very long ride to Kramer from here.”
“I never could sleep in a carriage.” He kissed her. “Far too bumpy.”
She smiled and rolled onto her back and pulled him along with her. “Kiss me all over. You know how I like it.”
He smiled back and took her hands to raise them above her head. “I do know how you like it. The skin around your breasts tastes the best.”
She giggled and relaxed into the cushions as his mouth roved all over her body. He paid particular attention to her breasts, just as he promised, licking, sucking, nipping. She writhed beneath him with many happy sighs and cries.
He gently kissed her stomach and whispered, “I’m so sorry he hurt you.”
She tangled her fingers in his hair. “You couldn’t have changed it. And there’s no going back.”
“Only forward.” He promised. He kissed his way back up her body.
She placed a hand on his chest. “On your back, darling.”
He rolled over and she followed.
“One more thing.” She reached over and turned down the lamp until it was just a soft glow to assist the small fire.
Sebastian leaned up and took her nipple into his mouth before she moved back down. Gail cradled his head and let him continue to suck for a moment. His hand moved between her legs and dipped into her wet, ready entrance. She moved against his hand and slid back down to get a kiss.
“You feel so soft.” He whispered.
“And you’re hard.” She removed his fingers and brought them to her mouth. “I don’t want your hand.” She sucked hard on his fingers and smiled when he groaned.
“Are you going to ride me?”
She smiled and sat back. “What would you like?” She moved her hands up over her body.
He pushed her hips up and entered her. Then he sat up and kissed her slowly as they began moving together. He tangled his fingers in her hair and kissed every bit of her he could reach.
Her nails scratched his skin, wishing she could bring him farther into her. Deeper, under the skin, she ached for him all over. The grew and grew and the heat in the room and in the moment caused them both to sweaty and slick and their bodies slid together as he moved in and out of her.
The heat outside matched the heat inside. Gail felt the pressure building inside her and she sensed the change in Sebastian that signaled he was almost at his peak. And they cried out as one. Louder and louder with each thrust until they came in almost the same instant.
Then they collapsed in a heap on the cushions, panting.
“Can we get married quickly so we can do that every night?” Sebastian asked.
“I don’t want them to think you impregnated me.”
“I may have.”
Gail rolled away. “We’ll examine that if the time comes. Cigarette?”
Sebastian pulled his coat over and took out the case. He lit one and passed it to her. They shared it in silence for a while. She shivered and curled into his side.
“I forgot a blanket. I’m sorry.” He pulled his coat over her shoulders and covered her as much as he could with his body. “I’ll add more to the fire.”
“No, it’s fine. Just had a small chill.” She yawned as she took the cigarette. “I should go back. I have an early ride ahead of me. A long one.”
“With memories of this. And knowledge that I will do all I can to do well by you and your boys.”
“Will you come see them every day I’m gone?”
“Yes.”
“I would appreciate it if you would put them to bed at least once. They don’t need much, just tell them goodnight and let them know you care.”
“I promise. I’ll be here every night at their bedtime if you want me to.”
She kissed his shoulder and yawned again. “I hate to, but I really do need to go.” She sat up. “If I fall asleep out here and don’t wake up in time to sneak back into the house unnoticed… I don’t want any more scandal. Especially now that my boys are more deeply involved.” She picked up her clothes and started dressing as he watched.
He finished the cigarette and lit another. He sat it between her lips when he started gathering his own clothes. “We’ll do this again.”
“I sure hope so.” She took a long drag from the cigarette and passed it back. She helped him button his shirt and then picked up his waistcoat. “I love you. Thank you for this. Thank you for everything.”
“Don’t thank me. I’m not worthy of it.”
She took his face gently in her hands. “One day you will realize that you are.” She kissed him softly and then picked up her dressing gown. “You don’t have to, but it would be lovely if you would come see me off in the morning.”
i am really upset about my writing because i have this major split where i at the same time think what i wrote is good, but also that it's complete shit and boring
