Aaaahhh! I'm so happy! I completed nanowrimo! Does my novel make any sense whatsoever? No... But I finished it!
Did you know…
….About National Novel Writing Month?
One part writing boot camp, one part rollicking party, National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) celebrates its 19th year of encouraging creativity, education, and the power of the imagination through the largest writing event in the world. This year, NaNoWriMo expects nearly 500,000 people to start a 50,000-word novel in the month of November.
In 2016, NaNoWriMo welcomed over 400,000 participants in 633 different regions on six continents. Of these, more than 40,000 met the goal of writing 50,000 words in a month.
This November, over 900 Municipal Liaisons (MLs) will coordinate hundreds of local, in-person writing events, working with local businesses, libraries, and community centers to bring creative writing into cities and regions across the globe. To be a part of the writing group for NWA, visit https://nanowrimo.org/regions/usa-arkansas-fayetteville-nwa. There you can see the scheduled meetups, talk on the forums with other writers about your ideas and see what others are coming up with!
If you’re interested, there will be several chances to meet with fellow writers throughout NWA. To kick off NaNoWriMo, there will be a meeting on October 31st at United Campus Ministry in Fayetteville from 8pm-1am. From November 1st, the group will have several chances during the week for people to meet, including here at Rogers Public Library! On November 10th, RPL will host a NaNoWriMo Overnighter starting at 5:30 pm and it ends whenever the last person decides they’ve had enough! There are more awesome opportunities if you’ve only got a few hours here and there; see below for the scheduled days throughout the month of November:
Tuesdays: University of Arkansas Library 5pm – 9pm
Wednesday: Black Apple Crossing (Springdale) 6pm – 9pm
Mama Carmens (Fayetteville) 5:30pm-7:30pm
Thursday: Rogers Public Library 6pm – 9pm (Closed November 23rd)
Saturday: Iron Horse (Rogers) 10am – 2pm
Mama Carmens (Fayetteville) 10am – 2pm
Sunday: Starbucks (14th and Walton, Bentonville) 2pm – 6pm
just wrote at the library for the first time, listening to taylor swift, and i’ve never felt more main character energy.
Day Twenty-three
Word count: 2,471
I’m glad this is my highest word count yet. I still need to fully catch up but I’m starting off on good footing.
Today’s #nanowrio Question: Is my memory stuck? When I started my project on November 1st, I let the flood gates open. Then after a long flight across the country on Monday left the mind, body and spirit was a bit tired. 💫 Yesterday I read some past journals and my #memory unfolded what I needed to move forward. I am so grateful for keeping a #journal and having the courage to open the pages of the past to trigger my memory and continue with my next memoir project. 💫 This picture shares how I am feeling. Running free in the field and going with with flow. 💫 How is your writing journey? Any tricks on how to spark the memory? Have a great day! - #grateful #nanomemoir #memoir #amwriting #gowiththeflow - @brandywhenry @nanowrimo https://www.instagram.com/p/Bp7tg1VhRXL/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=11sc8bxtdtkr4
I signed up for NaNo 2018, but last year didn’t go so well. Back in July, I tried Camp NaNo. It also didn’t go so well. To be honest, writing, getting the words out, it has been the worse thing in the world for me since about January of 2016. A lot of shit has gone down with me mentally. I don’t think I’ve recovered from it all. I keep trying to write, but getting sentences out, I’ve had to battle to string thoughts along. It isn’t just my novels. It’s research papers for school. I’m unsure what to do at this point. I keep trying to just push through it. But, I don’t know if that isn’t working, it just the words come out, and they are shit. My mental process is shit. I don’t know if its the mental rollercoaster of Feb. 2016 to April 2017, or if it’s the meds, which I can’t go off without going back to daily panic attacks. I’ve journaled my grievances to death. I don’t know how else to do to get through this shit rut other than keep pushing forward.
The puppy and I did some collaborative writing today. This is the result:
