American Giant Millipede (Narceus americanus) in Turkey Point Provincial Park this month. This is North America's largest Millipede, this one was at least 10 cm long. Millipedes are generally feeders on decaying plant material, plowing through the leaf litter environment on their many legs. These Millipedes lay only a single egg, and when the young hatch they have only three pairs of legs. As they grow and moult, they gain body segments and legs until they're a formidable undergrowth train like the one I encountered. . . . . . . . #ontarionaturephotography #americangiantmillipede #narceusamericanus #millipedes #millipedesofinstagram #millipedemonday #exploreontario #norfolkwild #blognorfolk #arthropod_perfection #lifeintheundergrowth #decomposers #turkeypoint #turkeypointprovincialpark (at Turkey Point Provincial Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPingTAAv6_/?utm_medium=tumblr
