Haycock Mountain hike yesterday! We saw the infamous Apheloria virginiensis, a large, flat-backed North American millipede. Glad I didn't touch this one; they secrete toxic compounds and can host a parasitic fungus that makes them climb to a high place before death. We also saw a new native raspberry we never knew existed: Rubus odoratus, the purple-flowering raspberry.
