Ch. 28
Facial expressions can be tamed, schooled to show no sign of what the person is thinking or feeling. Shy and quiet, any outsider might presume Uguisu would be overwhelmed by the new company surrounding the unofficial couple but Kakashi knows better. She’s gonna kill me.
He had decided not to tell her where they were going because he knew she’d object for reasons mainly made up by the distrusting side of her. The traumatized side. And sure, Asuma and Kurenai had seemed apprehensive at first...but their reluctance had nothing to do with the woman revealed to them as the evening progressed.
This might work. With only this night before heading outon his mission, Kakashi is hoping for his blue nightingale to make friends – to find people she can trust and rely on when he himself is not around.
“- and I was sure he was going to fail them just like all the others,” Asuma admits, “I still half suspect ‘Kashi let them pass just to mess with us.”
“Oh, you just expect the worst of him because he always beats you,” Kurenai’s scoff devolves into a giggle.
“He does not!”
Yes, I do. “Either way, I’m sure Uguisu here doesn’t need to hear tall tales about me, guys.”
He notices the mischievous flash of a glance she shoots him before turning the attention to the two other sensei. “On the contrary, keep them coming!” Even the smile seems genuine. “But I gotta ask first...how long have the two of you -”
“No. Nonono,” Asuma almost chokes on the beer as he protests, “any information’s gonna cost you.”
“Oh?”
That’s a dare and I’m not sure you can pay the price, Asu’. Staying quiet, Kakashi leans back in his seat to watch how it’ll play out.
It had been a gamble to bring the blue-haired woman here. Asuma’s supposed bachelor pad is unknown terrain for her (maybe) and being forced face-to-face with relative strangers could have put her on the defensive. Instead, she’d taken a deep breath and walked in with her head held high and Kakashi’s respect in a strong grip.
“One for one,” the bearded man explains.
“And if one of us doesn’t want to answer?”
A cigarette is stubbed out while he thinks. “Hm. Fine, but on the condition that the replacing question must be answered then.”
Are you sure you wanna play that game? Kakashi is uncertain who the unvoiced concern is for.
“Then my question is...” Uguisu pauses for dramatic flair, “how long have the two of you been dating?”
“Uh...” Denial seizes to be an option within seconds. “Probably for longer but at least a year...”
The brunette smiles at the blushing giant. “Nothing’s official so please don’t -...but at least he realized it fall last year.”
“27th of October,” a voice comments dryly.
“Kakashi!”
One of Kakashi’s favourite hobbies is to make the larger man blush and this time it makes everyone laugh, even Uguisu who sounds like silvery bells of mirth. It sends heat through his body and his heart bubbles with pride and relief. This’s going well.
Of course, he doesn’t want the newcomer to be alone. Like any other human being, she needs friends to rely on and chase the darkness away...but he’s also hauling water to his own rice paddy in the sense that these connections will help her make a home for herself here in Konohagakure and therefor keep her from leaving one day. Duty would compel him to stay, but Kakashi knows she’d be taking his heart with her and he’d be a hollow shell of a man.
The sound of his own name rattles him from the troubled reverie.
“-shi has been wearing it for as long as I can remember...I’m not even sure I’d be able to recognize his ugly mug,” Asuma laughs.
“Ugly? You’d find me too irresistible and Hiruzen would have to give up the dream of more grandchildren.”
...
Unable to fall asleep even as the night fades to day, Kakashi still smiles at the new memories of a smiling face framed in shades of blue.
He had followed her home and for a brief moment it seemed as though she would invite him inside, but the chance passed unused with the exception of a single acknowledgement: Thank you, Kakashi. They had been so close that her cotton scent was warming him and he could’ve drowned in it. Or her eyes.
I’m hopeless, he admits while admiring the memory and recalls the softness of her skin and the taste of Uguisu’s mouth.
The memory morphs into a waking dream, allowing his hands to pretend to busy themselves with her curves that always are out of reach; and he can almost hear the gentlest hitch in her breath as he imagines how it might be to discard each others’ clothes so the only thing between their bodies is a thin sheen of sweat – sweat that allows limbs to tangle and glide smoothly.
Half-crazed by phantasmal touches and moans, Kakashi frees the one body part of his that’s reacting the most. This is wrong. But the calloused grasp by his own hand sends his mind spinning at the idea of how it would feel if only it wasn’t his hand surrounding and stroking the erection but rather the wet tightness of her core. It’s all too easy to push aside any notions of right and wrong then. Lying on his back, grip tightening, he succumbs to the dream of Uguisu riding him – slow and testing at first until she would begin to chase her own high.
The real climax sends the jōnin for a crash landing into a pit of guilt.
