Another beginner quilter here! I'm making a quilt out of some old high school and sports t-shirts that I wanted to save in some way, but since I have no living family/friends who have any experience in quilting (that i know of) I'm kinda winging it as I go. I'm pretty good at hand sewing, and learning how to use a machine (it's intimidating though...) I saw your post on EPP, would that be helpful once I get to putting my quilt together? (pt 1)
(part 2) All my pieces are rectangular but they are different sizes, so my quilt doesn't have a regular pattern to how the shapes go together. Any advice on what might make this project go a little more smoothly, or what I might have to look out for?
Hm, well, EPP is all about small carefully matched pieces so that might not be the way to go. Also, t-shirt fabric is knit, and stretchy, so it’s hard to use in the exact same way as woven quilting cotton.
I think what might work would be backing your t-shirt pieces with a woven fabric, so they don’t warp and stretch while you sew. Then decide on how big you want your blocks to be, and add strips of fabric to the borders of each t-shirt rectangle until they all match -- kind of like you would for a log cabin quilt?
