I say this as someone who loves you all and understands that we as a fandom community like to be dramatic and make statements that are more extreme than should be taken seriously:
Joey Logano and his current hair (or lack thereof) is something that you should feel perfectly comfortable having an opinion about, and even expressing an opinion about. However, as fans who I would hope care about these drivers, we have an obligation to be careful with our words.
Joey has opened up about having alopecia. His hair loss is not the result of simple aging, but rather the result of an autoimmune disease. So when you choose to express your opinion about how he looks, just remember that your comments can and probably will affect someone who either has alopecia or another autoimmune disease. Autoimmune diseases steal so much from the people that suffer from them, and one of those things is often the ability to like what you look like. I personally struggle with this bc of my own struggles with autoimmune diseases (not alopecia specifically). So when people choose to use derogatory terms and adjectives about someone with an autoimmune disease, I will be the first to admit that it doesn't feel good.
So just... Please read through a few times before you post next time you are going to comment about something like this, to make sure that the way you are saying it isn't going to come across badly to ppl with autoimmune diseases. Thank you 🩷🩷
I am totally down to have a civilized, kind, respectful conversation about this, either in my ask box or comments or reblogs. Just pls be kind! 😊 I won't interact with insults, name calling, or hate.
Also btw, a lot of ppl with alopecia choose to shave their heads once all other treatments stop working bc they personally feel mentally better that way than having to visually see the patches and bald spots. So going bald fully is a way for them to feel like they have control back in some way. So that might be why Joey chose to shave his head.
