CONTROL IS EVERYTHING. if there’s one thing she’s insisted on, thrived on, felt powerless without — it’s control. of course, plans fail now and then... but she’s creative. always has been, when it comes to the pursuits closest to her. one might say the ability to improvise comes with the job, and emily would agree... especially considering that her quest for vengeance is the closest thing she’s got to a job ❪ though it isn’t as if she needs an actual job, is it? ❫.
curiosity as she’d listened turns into a carefully crafted smile as she arms herself to respond. it’s one she’s practiced regularly enough — a masterful blend of charming and innocent. it’s the sort of smile that tends to stave off suspicion, which is always a useful tool for someone engaged so regularly in the art of deception. it doesn’t fool everybody, some are naturally suspicious with the intention — conscious or subconscious — to place guilt on anyone who so much as looks at them wrong.
jumping to the assumption that those she hasn’t taken the time to research are the more threatening of the two is a dangerous game, and not one emily often plays. today’s no different, so the smile lingers as fully formed and confident as it would be if she weren’t so consistently watching her own back.
