“Sakusa.” His greeting is kept short and to the point - as in all things, Ushijima does not embarrass himself with pointless fioritures, and is confident that his companion is of a similar disposition. Arms crossed over his chest as he sits in the stands, paying close attention to the practice match unfolding before his eyes, his focus only just wavered by the sudden appearance at his side, he sits back in his seat. He should have expected it, of course - Karasuno’s unexpected victory against Shiratorizawa had raised, and continues to raise, quite a few eyebrows and questions.
“I heard Itachiyama is going to Nationals. Congratulations.” Completely unsurprising - Itachiyama can, after all, boast about having one of the best scorers and one of the best liberos in the nation on their team. Still, sportsmanship and personal standards command that he acknowledges his comrade’s achievements. He and Sakusa Kiyoomi are, he thinks, cut out of the same cloth - effort and craftsmanship rewarded with success, shortcomings and lack of preparation, with failure. The discrepancy between the two of them, today, lies in that unexpected defeated Ushijima still meditates over, as he watches other teams move on with their ambitions. “We will not be joining you, but I gage you will fare well.”
