I Am Thalente - Help fund this amazing project by Natalie Johns

When I started out filming I had absolutely no contacts what so ever. This was never a problem for me because the love is, and always will be, making things look and feel amazing. There was never a profit basis for the start of my career in directing (much to the shock of some people who don't understand this job). It's the real solid foundation to riding the highs and lows because your motivations are settled in your true love. There is no room for jealousy, suspicion, and conspiracy theories. You gotta be concerned with yourself and following your own moves. That's how you build a style.

Over the years this has naturally morphed into a position where I have responsibilities to exist, and bills to pay. If I'm honest and truthful, a lot of the work I get now is from overseas in America through record labels (not many UK ones). The basis to this was thanks to Natalie Johns who ran a site called Dig For Fire. I joined vimeo back in it's early stages and she ran her own page on there specifically for Dig For Fire. It was all about awesome projects involving bands and artists. She was also working along side one of my favourite directors Vincent Moon who runs a site called Take Away Shows. Take Away Shows had been brought to my attention through one of the members of a band called Anathallo (who I was working with at the time). Through all these links eventually I started talking to Natalie over vimeo. One day she sent someone to me who headed up the video department of a LA record label, to enquire about a job on offer. This job was directing video content with a band called Foxy Shazam. She had sung my praises to the guy saying that I was young talent who they should be talking to. The rest is history.

I could go on and on with this story but this post is not about me, it's about Natalie. Through her kindness and support she opened up a door for me to a world which brought to me some incredible jobs, and I will never forget that. I keep an eye on her work through social networking and lately she's been directing the above project which looks AMAZING. It really is spectacular and it's something I will want to watch/purchase when it's released. Really (indirectly) it's a story of her once again investing her time and goodwill in someone who was far less fortune than me. Pure kindness. But externally it's about the incredible talents of a South African skateboarder. It's inspirational to see such things in our times when so many people's first question is 'what's the profit'. Goodwill is out there, and it's quite often in the places where most people will try to convince you it isn't. 

With many modern projects, funding can't always be found through traditional sources, and this is where we all come in. Today, we've all turned into investors and funders in content entertainment, which is what I like to call 'true entertainment'. When we are in control of the content, we begin to see more of the things we want to see, and this is why sites like youtube are turning into the new TV. Natalie is creating something 'we want to see' through her new skateboarding lifestyle film. It's a tale of true heart and soul, and it's a foundation for everyone to take a look at what die hard dedication to your dreams can mean.
