I can't believe that as a prominent woman in fandom you did not have one (1) word to say about Nat's fridging

Oh! but I liked it, Anon, I really liked that thread of story! Or rather, Nat’s death didn’t feel to me like a fridging, though I can understand if it reads to you that way, and I’m sorry if it did and bummed you out. But Nat’s death per se didn’t read to me as a fridging, because to me, fridging is about when–hm, like when you don’t get to have your own story be about you. Fridging is when a character is like, “it’s so hard for ME when terrible things happens to THOSE GUYS” - which is, ugh, super irritating. Yes, it’s terrible for Batman that his parents died, but it was kind of terrible for THEM, TOO.  To introduce women we don’t care about and then kill them to motivate men’s stories is UGH. 

But in this–Natasha was the protagonist, more of a protagonist than she’s ever been in any of the MCU movies, IMO - no longer a sidekick. In fact, Steve was sort of her sidekick for the first part of the movie, which was fine! And I thought Nat got a really big damn hero story, second only to Tony’s. Nat got more story, more motivation, more stuff to do and play in Endgame than she’s EVER gotten, and IMO she was the center of the story until she died–not Steve or Tony (and Bruce, Clint, and Thor’s stories were good but definitely secondary IMO). And we were debating who was gonna have to die for the universe to be saved and it was always Steve or Tony and so it was kind of neat that Nat also got a big heroic beat like this - but also because she did it not just to save the world but to save Clint, who was Natasha in that moment–like, she was saving her former self, she’d grown to be the person who could redeem others.  But also also I felt that she was Bucky in that moment, (and IMO Bucky wasn’t a fridging either, though Bucky’s death was more of a tragic accident, not even a big saving-the-world moment) and that was meaningful to me in itself BUT ALSO the echo of Nat-as-Bucky in Endgame opens up all kinds of interesting stories for me. I said somewhere that all my first Endgame ideas were actually Nat ideas, because–well, there are IMPLICATIONS to having Nat fall like Bucky that could play out, let me leave it there. :D I can think of 17 ways to bring Nat back into the story and they’re all interesting (echo with Bucky, echo with Nebula, echo with Gamora, echo with Peggy, echo with…)

Anyway, fwiw, all my UGH feelings about the way TBTP treat Natasha are wrapped up in Iron Man II and–well, most of Ultron, though I really like her hero shot with Steve in Sokovia. But I thought this was actually Nat’s best movie yet.

Since prompts are open... Personally I love "texts from last night", and not so long ago I found this one "That's when I realized I was probably naked in the wrong bed". It's not that care which one of them is in "the wrong bed", but if it could be Bucky, that would be funnier, especially if this "bed" would be the couch in Tony's workshop.

Natasha squinted as she stared atthe glowing screen of her cell phone. She wished she could say it was too earlyin the morning for text messages, but unfortunately, she knew that was a lie. Asa former spy and SHIELD agent, she knew communications could be sent at anytime of day. Also, all the Avengers were texting fiends. If she went an hourwithout receiving a text, it was because somewhere in the world, someone wasdoing enough damage to wipe out an entire city or country.

With a groan, Natasha stretchedon her bed. She pushed red strands of hair out of her face, and glared at theforty-two text messages on her phone. She already knew who most of them werefrom. Bucky “never-stops-texting-when-drunk” Barnes had been bombarding hersince two in the morning.

Natasha tapped the messaging appwith the full intent to ignore Bucky and the inevitable “Have you seen Buckytext?” from Steve. She’d rather pay attention to more important texts. Textsfrom Sam or Pepper, for example. Once she checked those texts, as well as onefrom Clint, and a couple from Wanda, Natasha finally opened Bucky’s messages.

Natasha’s thoughts stalled as shestared into furious whiskey eyes that were accompanied by a shouting mouth bracketed by a styled goatee. His facial hair was looking a little lessstyled than usual due to the his morning shadow, but Tony’s trademark goateecould still be detected. In the photo, Tony lunged at the camera, his palmcovering most of the image.

Below the photo was a text fromBucky:

Natasha sat up in bed.

What the hell? She had estimatedtwo more weeks before Barnes and Tony slept together. Where had hercalculations gone wrong? She had even considered alcoholic courage when shemade her estimate, but her findings had shown that while Bucky and Tony were alittle more handsy with each other when inebriated, neither was willing to pushfor more than friendship. Even if both wanted to do so.

Natasha scrolled through Bucky’smessages. She didn’t get far before she ran into another photo. The second onewas a picture of Tony lying down, his head pillowed on Bucky’s flesh arm, andhis eyes blinking open.

Natasha swiftly scrolled to thestart of Bucky’s messages from last night, ignoring all other photos and textsuntil she reached the beginning of the story.

A picture of Tony asleep with hismouth slightly ajar followed. The image was angled, and from the position,Natasha could see that not only was Tony asleep on Bucky’s arm, but his headtouched Bucky’s shoulder. There was also a hint of Bucky’s chin in the photo.

How could anyone resist thatface?

Bucky sent another photo that wassimilar to the prior one.

He’s  just… damn it, Nat.How can one person be so perfect?

Natasha kept scrolling until shereached the bottom of the conversation where it was clear Tony had woken up tofind Bucky naked and taking pictures of him.

Tony had not been pleased.

Natasha sighed in frustration andrubbed her temple. After last night, her prediction that the two would gettogether in two weeks would most likely turn out wrong and it would take themthree weeks instead.

Natasha’s phone chimed with a newtext. She looked down at her phone to see it was a picture from Bucky.

In the image, Bucky kissed Tony’scheek as Tony grinned at the camera.

We talked. We’re together now.

Natasha dropped her phone. The mobile hitthe floor with a thump.

Natasha seized her blankets andcocooned herself in them. With a sigh, she rolled onto her side and squeezedher eyes shut.

It was too early in the morning forthis crap.
