Shippers get a lot of lashings for being annoying and “forcing romance” but not enough is being said about people who force the nuclear family structure on everything. Nothing against found families, but the amount of people who seem to cram every dynamic into a cookie cutter nuclear family mold is driving me insane. It’s another lowkey reductive way of engaging with characters that pretends to less reductive than the shippers they constantly complain about. Not every relationship can be categorized as “sibling coded” or “father-daughter” because most relationships are more complicated than that. Don’t even get me started on the way these people use “coding” *cough* their headcanons *cough* to shut down ships they dislike.
Writing Update
YTD Word Count: 93,023
I've got a WIP list a mile long and I haven't made a ton of progress, but there's a good reason for how busy I've been — I got a promotion at work! This won't impact my writing time going forward, but it is good news.
Some actual writing-related stuff below:
Humanformers: 82,164 Chapters Complete: 6/7 Chapters Edited: 4/7
This is moving along and I'm getting excited about it. I have a lot less free time than I did when I started writing it, but I had most of a week off to work on it. I spent last weekend editing and rewriting a few load-bearing scenes and got a real heavy-duty push.
I'm a lot happier with it now than I was last month, where it felt soggy and directionless, but the only way to make something good is to put in the work. This is the first time I've written something this big, so figuring out how to edit it has been a slow and methodical process.
Humanformers Shorts/AUs: 53,848 (7 fics combined, in various stages of completion)
There's a lot going on here. I'll let you figure it out as I post them, haha. I was in the grips. Several of these are basically finished aside for some proofreading but won't make any sense at all until the core fic is posted.
Other misc:
I'm occasionally dabbling with some one-shots in other fandoms. I've got some very short things on deck for The Pitt and Project Hail Mary. I like to work on this short stuff when I'm stuck on longer fic.

congratulations for writing the funniest and also most correct tags on this post
If you have a fucked up sicknasty fanfic you've been thinking about sharing but are unsure, this post is your sign to run to AO3 and Just Do It: 1. Someone somewhere wants to read it. Even if it's only one person, that person matters
2. Your creativity matters and so does your ability to share it
3. Serial harassers in fandom spaces are beginning to express discomfort that sites like AO3 completely strip their ability to do anything about fic they don't like, sometimes going as far as leaving entire fandoms due to the influx of "problematic fiction without a chance for consequences to the author". Posting your fanworks to AO3 actively contributes to making harassers feel unsafe and powerless in fandom
4. Militant anti-fanfic content creators also cannot do anything about fic posted to AO3
5. You can post anonymously to AO3, with the ability to de-anonymize at any time
6. You can moderate comments before making them visible on your fic, restrict comments to logged-in users only, or turn off comments altogether, meaning you can post anonymously and completely turn off comments if you choose
hi erem!
just got reaaaally curious after reading your points of contact series for ... maybe the fifth time now? (awesome stuff. can't ever put down the cup when i start reading again) on if you've ever toyed with the idea of vortex interacting with the rest of the protectorbots
Probably not anytime soon! I write mostly IDW1 or IDW1 adjacent versions of the characters and I generally don't make a secret of not liking the way the Protectobots/Defensor were introduced in that continuity (which is to say, oddly and barely at all) compared to their G1 iteration. There's something to be explored there, but I always interpret First Aid's relationship with the other Protectobots in IDW1 as leaning far more into being colleagues than close team members/close friends.
I do have several of the Protectobots making a showing in my humanformers fic, but they don't interact with Vortex at all. I'd have to have a compelling plot reason to include them. Even my shipping tendencies are in the other direction -- First Aid with the Combaticons -- so as usual, I make no promises until something is done and ready to be posted.
Thanks for asking! 😌

You actually cannot skip to being good at a creative endeavour that you haven't put much practice into. You cannot trick your way out of the 'knows that your work is not what you want it to be but don't know how to improve it' stage by planning or reading or talking about it really really hard. At some point you just have to craft through it until your brain finds it's own unique way back to the 'everything I make slaps' stage and be prepared to start the cycle all over again. You just have to make that project you're excited about slightly less good than you want it to be. (Says this standing in a pool of blood and covered in blood and also coughing up a little blood)

Rock, could you just give me a little chance to sleep?
This captures something I don't think I'll ever be able to put in to words.
