To start off the new year, we had the incredible opportunity to do an eight day silent retreat. Going in, I had no idea what to expect. Eight days of silence and solitude sounded kind of miserable. But, as soon as I shut the door to the world by committing to seeking only God during that time, I found a totally new depth in my faith.
A few days in, I was so full of joy, I was literally bubbling over. I had a smile I could not suppress. I was so happy I covered my face, worried that I might distract the other missionaries from their experience on their own retreat. I felt like a fool, but in a good way. I was seeing God, and experiencing His love in a totally new way. I decided to write a song.
I picked up my ukulele, and began playing a melody I wrote almost exactly 4 years ago. I wrote it the first time I picked up a ukulele. Words came to mind so quickly my pen had a hard time keeping up with them. Before I knew it I was finished. Later, while sitting in the Chapel, I realized that God knew as I first picked up a ukulele and began playing a simple song on it that He would have me here as a missionary 4 years later falling into a deeper love with Him and living life to a fullness I never expected. God is good! Listen as many times as you like, and please download and share it with whoever you think may appreciate it. (You can do so by going to my soundcloud page. IT'S FREE!)
Thank you for listening. I hope the song brings you some of the joy it continues to bring me.
In His love,
-Nate Schaff
