Better of Two Evils | Nate and Magnussen

The man currently situated in front of him was – as current instances depicted – only a slight tear away from the normal malingering group of individuals he had the misfortune to mollycoddle on a daily basis; certain aspects piquing Magnussen’s interest whilst other grim facets dragged along the ranks of monotony; keeping him hindered upon the lines of boredom but not quite tipping him enough to install utter disinterest.

Nathanial Bough - no, Cossick – with unimportant affiliations and preferences that were to be expected of a man of such character, typical pressure points scarcely worth probing into – had entered the grounds of his house at approximately 11pm and then proceeded to bang on the door as if invited. Now, anyone with a lick of sense would have called that a ‘silly thing to do’, downright dangerous, or possibly even the mark of a lunatic; so either this man was extremely unstable, or held no fear and was after something – someone - rather important. How deliciously curious he had thought at the time – oh, how he grinned.

Shifting on the sofa, Magnussen moved his upper body from its previously sprawled position and angled it more towards Nate, occupying further space between them by equal parts default and intent – now then, let’s get a good hard look at you, Mister Bough. Resting one elbow on his knee and placing the other arm casually on the table, the limb consuming much of its surface, the blackmailer’s mouth twitched into a ghost of a smile before it quickly vanished and was replaced with the pretence of dissatisfaction.

“Nathan, correct?” Magnussen’s voice, flat as he addressed the other, remained purposefully impartial to whatever Nate had to say and disguised his attentiveness behind an expressionless guise; his thin and spider like fingers soon began to drum loudly against the counter top of the coffee table.“Did you need something, your actions suggest such?” The room they were in was dimly lit and graced only with the orange hue of lamp lights dotted around – a solitary sense of warmth at offer in an otherwise cold and empty expanse.
