Happy National Umbrella Day! Appropriately, it’s a rainy day here in Boston. We hope you brought your umbrella with you.

This albumen print is a carefully staged studio photograph. Take a closer look, and you’ll notice that the raindrops are scratched onto the surface of the photograph. They probably used a string to raise the hem of the kimono to create the windblown effect.
