This is the Carolina Lily, Lilium michauxii, the official state wildflower of North Carolina. It grows about 3 feet tall, usually blooms in July and August and is supposed to be the only fragrant native Lily east of the Rockies. I have never seen it rebloom. Every time I find a plant in bloom, I mark the spot to watch for it next year.
