— Pokni’s Pecan Tree —
definition: appokni, apokni, n., my grandmother.
shading me from the heat during the easter’s of my childhood
oh how defiant you stood
toes in the grass as pokni braided and educated me all that she could
i learned what it meant to be choctaw under this wood
how you survived all the disasters i never understood
she provided you with strength, now who would ?
once the eggs are hunted and the last slice of pecan pie gone, i realize i have transcended girlhood
princess of our tribe and an environmental activist it all began in this neighborhood
pokni taught me how sacred our beautiful earth is and as i stand under this tree i know everything is good
nook
the mind the nook. there I put it. there fixity shook it. the light the tiny ball.
orb of them all. fertile. bone meal crushed like skull. like a heart bag of stars.
throw them. scatter the ground for birds. the boned root. and on a day I pick it.
the flower the memory. void's yellow thicket blooming skeletal.
the blood the heart the vein.
there I took it.
there quiescence orbit it. the orb the sighing aww.
disperse of them supple. void flowering eyes recall.
nizhoni glints
'nizhoni glints’ who tho mine morning mine.
morning still. glow black gravity of blue and letting go.
obsidian gravity stars the water. sparkle-linear geometry.
forgotten name sensitivity. this. spoken softly wind moved verticality.
double spirit vespers pink renewal.
golden day alive.
her/his/their name sings sibilance. and in all this. lambency.
blessed be geometry. star utter wave revive.
spread light
open love. like my head popping off of my head in spread light. spatter on the wall. seven colored dance. open love. like the spread light of my legs. gory feast of glittering femurs.
“Yo soy la diosa de la belleza, Nuestra lengua es nuestra vida. Yo soy la fruta silvestre. La verde selva me pertenece. Me pertenece mi canto. . . . . . . . . . . . . #native #nativeamerican #nativepoetry #raices #indigenas #mexica #mexicana #aztec #wixarika #wixaritari #huichol #chichimeca #purépecha #otomi #toltec #mixteca #brownpride #nativepride #decolonize #decolonizeyourmind #reclaimyourpower #reconnecting #reconnectingnative #neweraranchera #yissellopez #lamalandrina https://www.instagram.com/p/CfehIIxFCWu/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Bambi is Native. I know this because I am Bambi and I am Native. Non-natives may not define Bambi as Native but I do not exist within the construct of Native-ness defined by non-Natives. Princess Leia is Native. I know this because I am Princess Leia and I am Native. Non-natives think of Natives as princesses who chat with bunnies, but not as princesses with the Force. Native future is Native. I know this because I am the future and I am Native. Non-natives may not think of Natives in the future because it is hard to sell art from a vanishing race if they do not actually vanish. -Alica Mteuzi, 2021 #nativepoetry #blackpoetry #poetry #bambi #popchalee #princessleia #nativefuture https://www.instagram.com/p/CV3wv63vL7Y/?utm_medium=tumblr
