FINALLY A PLACE TO SHARE THE STORY OF HOW I DRAGGED MY ROOMMATE’S DRUNK AND HIGH ASS HOME AT 4 AM:

for context: the second and last year i lived in my apartment near uni i lived with three girls four/five years younger than me who had just started uni. the day we met each other our landlady jokingly told me “looks like you’re going to be a big brother for them now”.

BOY WAS SHE RIGHT.

so, two months later. two of my housemates have gone back home (they lived in a town near the city where we lived) and i’m home alone with my roommate. she goes out for the night with her friends, we say hi to each other (and good night because we both knew i’d probably be asleep when she was back), she goes out and then comes back because she forgot her keys, yadda yadda. around midnight or so i go to sleep, she’s still out, but i’m cool. it’s all cool.

now, i’m not a deep sleeper, but some nights i don’t wake up not even if the whole sky is coming crashing down. luckily that night it was not one of those nights. in the middle of the night my phone starts vibrating, i drag myself out of sleep and i check who the fuck is calling me at 4 am. i see my roommate’s name on the screen (we’ll call her XY). i pick up the call and i think to myself “oh yeah she must’ve forgotten the keys and is calling me instead of ringing at the door”.

then i go “wait. she did take the keys.”

oh shit, then what’s wrong?

on the other side of the call a female voice i don’t recognize starts talking to me, and this was the conversation that followed.

“hey, are you XY’s roommate?” “uuuuh yeah, why?” “listen, you have to come here, because we can’t move her from the bed.” “... what?” “like, she drank a lot and collapsed and hasn’t been moving since.”

imagine me, trying not to panic because a) she’s barely of age b) i am the adult c) i’m trying really hard not to think that she’s gone in an ethilic coma. by this point i’m wide awake and trying to stay lucid. i ask a few more questions and find out that they can’t take her to our house because they can’t understand where we live (google maps?? hello????), none of them has a car to bring her there, so i eventually decide to take the matter in my own hands and drag my ass to their house (which was, thankfully, five minutes away from ours). have i mentioned that by now i am fully lucid and awake and trying not to spiral into a “SHE’S IN A FUCKING COMA WE’RE GOING TO HAVE TO CALL THE AMBULANCE” kinda thing.

anyway, i get to the house, and i find a group of freshmen waiting on the building stairs for me. they ask me if i’m The Roommate, and i say yep that’s me where’s XY, and i find her sitting on top of the stairs with her head on her legs and i was so relieved because oh god she isn’t in a coma. i get close to her, i shake her and i tell her that it’s time to go home, but she’s too gone to do much more than mumbling that she’s tired and she can’t. while i try to figure out how to bring her home, i ask a few more questions and find out that they were all at a pub, XY smoke weed and then drank, and when they arrived home she collapsed. they even have the FUCKING AUDACITY to tell me “we were going to go to the club and leave her here with just one person, but then we decided not to do that” (i would process this and the other bullshit that followed only the day after, when i’m no longer worried and i can get mad instead).

eventually two of the freshmen decide to help me carry her home, especially because to get to our house we have to climb two steep ascents and i can’t do it alone, at least not while she’s still as slack as a doll. all goes well till we are on top of the first ascent, then one of the guys LITERALLY looks around the square we just entered, went “oh hey, that’s my friends” AND LEFT ME AND THE OTHER GUY ALONE WITH XY, WHO WAS STARTING TO FEEL BETTER BUT NOT ENTIRELY.

long story short, the other guy is a sweetheart and helps me take her home, even if halfway she starts walking on her own and being slightly more functioning. he even offers me to help me climb our stairs, but i tell him to go, i can take care of her now. which i do - i help her get into bed, i make her lay on her side so she doesn’t suffocate if she happens to throw up, i put a bucket near her bed in case she actually throws up, then i pass out.

the funniest thing was that the day after she didn’t remember shit about what happened, and when she walked into the kitchen for breakfast we had this hilarious conversation:

“you know, it’s weird... i remember that i was at my friend’s house last night, but then i woke up here and i don’t remember how i got back here.” “... your friends called me and i came to take you home.” “.... OH MY GOD YOU DID? IM SO SORRY - i mean, i’m happy that you came for me BUT ALSO I’M SO SORRY ----”

not really. he’s always been more prone to feel anger rather than fear, thus even in worst case scenario chances are that he’ll get angry instead of scared about what’s going to happen him next. as for specific fears, he doesn’t seem to have any.

back when he was just a newbie in Hell, he did remember the car crash as vividly and un-fondly as he possibly could, and he hated it. it made him feel in a way that he didn’t like at all, the kind of feeling that he surely didn’t want anyone else to see nor even suspect. nowadays he has learned to live with the memories of his death and flashbacks don’t plague him anymore, but he can’t say that he thinks back about the car crash positively. he’ll mention it but won’t get too much into the details. 

he isn’t afraid of having it happen to him again because he knows that he’s resilient enough to survive now, but if a car zooms past him just a tad too fast he might feel a shiver run down his spine.
