This is my adorable little Snowball. She is a traditional white angora goat. As a matter of fact, there’s not too many on our colored angora goat farm. Perhaps that’s why I think it’s so funny that she doesn’t care about a little mud or mess. “Aahh well, it’s washable” she says, “and I’m still cuddly in your lap” every once in a while. Weaving is different. I’m never really sure about anything until it’s been cut off the loom and hanging on the wall. As someone who needs certainty and predictability in their life, I should hate the uncertainty of it all.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But I don’t. I like that I’m not in control. In 1964 Van Day Truex purchased an abandoned farmhouse that he would name Chaumet – “thatched cottage” – on twenty acres of land outside the town of Gargas. He made the necessary adaptations while ensuring that the house was in keeping with its surroundings. It embodied the rustic simplicity of an 18th-century farmhouse of this region while incorporating his preference for unadorned stone and unglazed terra cotta tiles for the floors, and the simplest of decoration – cotton and linen textiles, simple furnishings of natural materials, and a neutral color palette of beige.
