Media has influenced the way people see themselves and has resulted in them not believing in themselves because media often shows the ideal life that is flawless and perfect. This has resulted in human beings feeling down/useless because they do not fit media’s representation of what it means to live in the 21st century.
Although people now have access to a lot of knowledge and information, the amount of information that is spread across the world has also lead to people being misinformed and desensitized. This is because the information is hardly verified and certain media outlets set agendas to have people focussing on certain issues whilst overlooking other aspects of the issue. The constant displaying of violence and other social ills has influenced the way people react to certain incidents today because their reality has been completely altered.
The current state of the human condition has seen a decrease in the rates of suicide in a lot of parts of the world, even though there’s been an increase in depression and anxiety amongst other things, the modern lifestyle has resulted in people spending less time together and showing less compassion. This is because everyone is so busy glued up on their phones/laptops that they end up spending so much time there to a point that they end up forgetting the fact that they have an actual life without a phone.
Because of how we live our lives, lately a glass of water everyday seems almost impossible for us, as we prefer takeaways/junk and the food we consider healthy is processed. In this day and age, we hardly exercise or go for a jog, we always trying to find shortcuts. Life in the 21st century has resulted in social media being a tool for others to express their opinions freely but it has also led to cyberbullying and a lot of con artists. The sense of privacy/exclusivity is slowing dying as people constantly post about their lives and involve even minuscule details such as what is being eaten for breakfast.
Drugs and alcohol also seems to something that is bothering humans in this century. It seems like we always trying to fill a void, although for some it seen as a way of enjoying life, it ultimately boils down to how responsible one can be. Lot of people turn to these as anti-depressants which leads to much more extreme problems in the long run. Human’s perception of success has a lot to do with materialistic things which often results in them living an unhappy life as they use their perspective of success as a reason to be happy. So while on the quest to find success they forget to be happy or rather forget about the little things that make them happy while on earth and that’s the human condition in the 21st century.
