Happy birthday to Bruce Nauman, who was born on this day in 1941 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This neon is a founding work in Nauman’s career. At once serious and playful, Nauman poetically states the ideal role of the artist in society, but used a medium that was more commonly associated with mass-produced advertising, bar windows, and wall signs.
