Room For Ruby
I was rooting for Navy to join the Crystal Gems and live with Lapidot so the Blue, Green, Red holy trio could be complete but I think I always saw that ending coming. It was a great twist regardless, and I loved it. One of the better recent episodes for damn sure, maybe the best. So I’m just going to point out a few things that help to show that this episode wasn’t filler, but one that furthered the plot. Starting with theories:
Lapis is opening up more, for starters, and while I can’t say for certain, I think that could mean we may finally get all of her backstory soon. Here’s hoping.
Navy was manipulative, she used her charm and sweet nature to get close to the Gems and use them to get what she wanted. If the gem placement=personality thing is in any way solid, this could be a nod to Rose Quartz, another naval placed Gem, being something else other than what she seemed.
As for plot details that could be important:
If I recall correctly, Lapis, Jasper, Peridot, Holly Blue Agate, the Famethyst, and the Ruby Squad are the only Homeworld Gems to directly interact with the Crystal Gems.
Lapis returned to Homeworld to find it changed, and immediately contacted Steven to let him know something was wrong and that Homeworld Gems were coming to Earth. We later discovered that those Gems were Peri and Jasper, and even later we found out they only came to review the status of the Cluster. Lapis did tell them there were Gems on Earth-but not who those Gems were, and Homeworld would have no reason to be threatened by just any group of measely Gems. Furthermore, they probably assume Jasper took them out upon arrival. Lapis then joined the Crystal Gems once her imprisonment ended, making her knowledge of them no longer a threat.
Jasper was never able to contact Homeworld again after her arrival, and now she’s corrupted and bubbled. Knowledgeable threat neutralized.
Peridot contacted Homeworld only once after her crashing on Earth, and during her talk with Yellow Diamond, she specifically avoided saying anything about the Crystal Gems. She then proceeded to join them. No longer a threat.
Holly Blue Agate, while somewhat of a loose end, is most likely no longer a threat based solely on the Pearl’s warning to her. Holly is much too afraid to tell a Diamond of her mess up, and therefore her knowledge of them is also most likely non-threatening.
The Famethyst is just great and they don’t give two flying fucks that a group of rebels escaped the Zoo. Probbaly not threatening.
And then there’s the Ruby Squad.
Navy is obviously the entire reason for this post so let’s start with her. After manipulating the Gems, she escaped on the Ruby ship, which means a number of horrible things.
She’s going to gather Leggy, Army, Eyeball, and Doc from space.
They’re going to go to Homeworld.
They have knowledge of the Crystal Gems, and will tell the Diamonds.
One Ruby is particular, Eyeball, has seen Steven’s gem and heard him confess that Rose Quartz is his mother and he has her powers.
The Diamonds will then know that along with a few Crystal Gems, “Rose Quartz” is still, in fact, “alive.”
The earrings from the Zoo will act as tracking devices.
The Diamonds are coming.
The Gems are fucked.
