Favorite chip flavour and most overrated?
Before I begin let me preface this by saying I am originally from the snack capital of the United States (central Pennsylvania) and so there's a reason that I have to be as particular as I'm about to be. The Chip Debate(s) are way more serious to me than the Sheetz vs Wawa debate.
#1 chip of all time? Middleswarth Bar-B-Q (the original, not the kettle cooked). It's the perfect barbecue seasoning. There's even a sports bar in the Harrisburg area that uses it as a dry rub on wings.
A short list of my personal rankings: Regular potato chip? Middleswarth. Kettle cooked potato chip? Martin's. Pretzels (esp pretzel pieces)? Snyder's. Puffy cheese curls? Utz. Crispy cheese curls? Good's.
All those brand particulars are very important to me. There are dozens of others that I didn't mention - Hartley's, Cape Cod, Lays, Pringles, Doritos - that are also great. But if I'm in a situation where I have to choose, that's what I'm choosing.
As far as flavor separate from type/style of chip, favorite is going to be a two way tie between salt and vinegar and sour cream and onion. And this may seem contrarian to what I said my #1 chip of all time is, but barbecue chips as a flavor are easily the most overrated to me. I also tend to prefer kettle cooked chips over regular potato chips but Middleswarth barbecue are just too damn good.
Honey mustard & onion pretzel pieces are the best flavor of seasoned pretzel (though cheddar cheese is a close second) and Snyder's is the best brand widely available but if you can get to a Mennonite store they probably make them fresh and that's always going to be really good. I also have a buddy that makes big batches of seasoned pretzels around the holiday season but the seasoning blend is a secret :(
This is more information than you asked for but it's important to me that you understand that there's so much more to a snack than just the flavor and also that making decisions is difficult for me.
