Chile... Paige said, turn up! 😂
Hello my favourite people!! I’m starting this story because… well Nika. So I hope you all enjoy reading this as much as I do writing it.
Charlie Lopez is a new transfer from Iowa to UConn that is now on her third year of college like the rest of the girls. She’s a ice hockey athlete but ends up as roommates with one of the girls from the basketball team. She’s a pretty closed off person with a pretty extroverted roommate. That’s ought to be fun

Paige’s pov
“Alright everyone practice is over! Azzi come over real quick” coach asked making me lift an eyebrow. Azzi signalled for me to follow her. We stood in front of him as he was looking at some papers. “Hey so you will be having a roommate I was told. Coach McKenzie wanted her near the teams dorms and yours was the only one with one person in so we paired her with you. She should be here any minute” he explained.
“Um coach why is she coming here though?” I asked. “She was sent by coach to get checked out by Janelle” he responded making me nod before turning to look at my girl.
Azzi nodded at coach before looking at me shrugging her shoulders. Well there go the secrecy of our relationship. We all gathered at the bench talking about azzi’s new roomie before the doors opened.
The girl walked in. Hands in her pockets and bag on her shoulders but her eyes sharp scanned the room. She was chewing gum so sharply you could think she hated gum. She was blond. Green ish eyes. Her shirt was a Nike blue shirt with a zipper from the upper half which was tight on her arms showing her muscles. Her sleeves rolled up exposing her arms and the tattoo on her left arm.
We all looked at each other before azzi and I decided to go and introduce ourselves. “Hey you must be my new roommate. I’m Azzi” My girl said extending her hand. The girl smiled slightly and shook her hand with Azzi’s. “Hi nice to meet you. I’m Charlie” she spoke before turning to look at me still extending her hand. “Paige. Nice to meat you” I spoke before I connected my hand with hers.
“Do you guys know where the physical trainer is? I have no idea where I am going right now” she spoke. “Yeah you can go down the hallway and it’s the first door on your left” I said and earned a smile and a nod from her.
Then once again the doors to the gym opened. Nika walked in making all of us turn to look at her. She walked towards the girls on the bench taking off her headphones “Hey guys sorry my doctor appointment took longer than expected. Y’all have seen geno? I need to give him this” she spoke not acknowledging the new girl. “Nika they placed a roomie in my dorm come meet her. Charlie this is Nika” Azzi said.
Hearing this Nika turned around to look at her. It was a bit funny since she needed to look up a bit to look at her. “Oh hey I didn’t notice you” she said also chewing on gum. I raised my eyebrows how they looked at each other. Charlie let a a smile on her face. Not a big one but still visible.
“So you needed something Nik?” I asked with a smirk on my face. Nika snapped out of her eye contact with Charlie and looked at me. “Yeah um where’s geno? I need to give him this” she said showing me a doctor’s diagnosis.
“Uh yeah he’s in his office” I answered and she nodded. “Well I better get going. Trainer won’t like it if I’m late on the first day. I will see y’all later though. Bye”. Charlie said and after throwing another look towards Nika she started walking to the direction I told her to.
“Okay she is either super cool or she is one of the bitches that know they’re hot and good at what they do” Kk spoke as soon as the girl left the court. “Or she is just has confidence at what she does” Azzi said. “y’all are just thinking about this too much. She’s a well known athlete. And she doesn’t know us so how would you want her to act? Besides she didn’t come here for us. She needed to see Janelle. We spoke to her because she will be rooming with Azzi” I commented.
We all hit the lockers still talking about the new girl when Nika entered the room. “Hey Nika what do you think of the new girl” Ice asked. Nika looked at everyone who was suddenly looking at her. “Uh she’s okay? I don’t know. And she left almost immediately so I didn’t talk to her much” she said sitting next to me.
“Yeah true” Azzi spoke making all of us nod. “But you’re leaving the part where y’all had intense eye contact” I commented. She turned to look at me as red as a tomato.
“We did not!” She defended “you kinda did” Azzi jumped in on the teasing. The whole locker erupted in ‘oos’ making her laugh cause of the embarrassment.
Charlie’s pov
I knocked on the door I was told to and heard a soft ‘come in’ from the other side. I opened the door and saw the woman waiting for me at her desk. “Hello. I’m-” “I know who you are darling. Sit” she spoke making me nod.
She examined my shoulder and after five or six minutes she pulled away. “Everything seems to be doing good so I’m just gonna give you the clearance paper you need to give it to your coach and then you can play” she said making me smile.
Not long after I was out the room making my way to the dorms. After I was given the keys to the dorm I made my way up with the elevator. Lana del rey was playing through my headphones as I tightened the grip on my suitcase. Once I reached the door I opened it making my way inside.
The dorm was clean. Thank god. I can’t stand people that don’t pick up their mess. I went towards the open door down the corridor that was the entrance to the empty room. I placed my things on the bed and scanned the room. Quite spacious. I liked it.
After I got my clothes and books sorted out on the drawers and the wardrobe I went inside to check on the kitchen and everything. It was super cozy. Nothing like my dorm in Iowa. Cleaner too. My roommate there would never clean up. This seems like a godsend gift.
Once I changed to a pair of grey sweats and a black tank top I sat down at my desk trying to get everything in order. After an hour or so I heard keys jingle on the door which meant azzi was here. I didn’t look up immediately since I was categorising my drawers.
Not long after I heard the door a loud bang was heard. I got up instantly as if it was a reflex and went inside to see what was going on. Nika was here too. “What was that?” I asked. Nika went to explain but the banging on the door interrupted her. “Her ex is outside” Azzi spoke. As if on cue we all heard ‘GET YOUR ASS OUT HERE RIGHT NOW’.
I turned around and lifted an eyebrow. “That’s your ex?” I asked. She just nodded as she put azzi in front of her for cover since the banging wasn’t stopping. “What the fuck? He goes around banging doors or what?” I asked confused. “He’s a really bad guy so I didn’t want to leave her alone. I’m sorry for all of this” Azzi said with a sad look on her face. I just put up my hand to signal her to stop.
Since the banging now was becoming unbearable I decided to take matters into my own hands. So I went to open the door.
“Where is she?! Who are you?” He said trying to get in. I pushed him back without much effort “hold your horses now. This is my dorm. And you’re not seeing her. Thanks for stopping by” I spoke as I looked at him eye to eye. He chuckled. “Cute. I love how y’all stand up for each other. But I ain’t leaving without her” he said looking at Nika.
“Alright big strong man. I ain’t giving her to you. Get that shit inside your head and leave her alone or we are going to have problems and you don’t want that” I spoke once more. “Yeah? What are you gonna do?” He asked with a smug smile. “I will mop the floor with your face” I said taking a step closer so now i was face to face with him. I was a bit taller than him too.
“You fucking her too? The other bitch wasn’t enough? She’s not worth it man just let me talk some sense into her” he said. I grabbed him by the collar of his shirt almost instantly and shoved him to the wall next to the door. “Listen here big man. You talk like that about Nika again and I will make sure we wipe off the blood from the ice with your fucking body. Understood?” I spoke calmly.
He didn’t move at first but when he saw I wasn’t backing down he nodded. I let him go and he left almost instantly. I got back inside closing the door straightening my tank top.
“What an asshole” I said still as calm as ever since I heard to be around people with uncountable anger issues I have learned to manage situations like that. I looked at the two girls who were looking at me in shock. “What?” I asked with confusion in my tone. “No it’s nothing I just- nobody ever stands up for me when it comes to Nahiem. Everyone doesn’t want to mess with the coach’s golden boy. Thank you” Nika said honestly. I smiled slightly.
“Please. If he’s the golden boy I might as well be the queen of coach McKenzie. He was the one that wanted me here in the first place. I just accepted” I said making both of them laugh a bit
“Um you got settled in? Everything good?” Azzi asked trying to change the topic. “Ah yes I did. Thank god you are a clean person cause I can’t stand the mess on an apartment” I commented and she agreed. “Well y’all can stay here I don’t mind. I’m just gonna go and organise my stuff. See y’all later” I spoke and the both nodded before I made my way in my room.
Azzi’s pov
As Charlie walked down the hallway as soon as I heard her door shut I turned to look at Nika. I raised an eyebrow at her crossing my arms across my chest. Shocked too. “What the fuck was that?” I asked. “I- don’t know? I mean sure I was thankful for her standing up for me right there but why’d she react so fast and protective? She knows me for less than two minutes” Nika stated.
“I don’t know. She seems friendly though so I like her. I hope being roommates with is gonna be fun. Cause really I couldn’t stand being alone. All the time” I said
I lied. Paige was always here. But nobody on the team knows about it. We wanted to tell Nika but with her injury and everything we let it go for now.
“What’re you thinking?” I asked Nika who seemed deep in thought. “Nothing just- it felt nice someone helping me with the alleyne problem” she said smiling softly. “Oh someone’s about to fall in loooove” I teased her making her laugh out loud.
“Glass of wine? I asked getting up from the couch. “Hell yeah” she answered. We sat at the couch with a bottle of wine and talked about everything. Alleyne. Charlie. Basketball. Every single thing until the bottle was empty and we had fallen asleep on the couch that became a bed.
Charlie’s pov
Once I was finished with making my room look like me I opened the door making my way outside. I found the two girls laying on the sofa while two glasses sat next to an empty bottle of wine. I smiled to myself before picking them up and making my way to the sink. I threw the bottle away and washed the glasses and rinsed them before putting them to their original place.
I stood there watching the two girls sleep before I started feeling bad for their backs tomorrow. So I did the only thing I could think of. I placed my hand under azzi’s knees and picked her up going to her room and placing her under the covers and made my way back to Nika.
I picked her up carefully not to wake her up and made my way to azzi’s room. Midway there she snuggled into my neck before returning to her slumber. I smiled at her resting face. I put her next to Azzi and after covering her up as well I left the room.
Truth is it was pretty late so I decided to head to bed myself. I got under the covers and put on greys anatomy so I could fall asleep. It was my to go show for the noise I needed so I could sleep.
Not even an episode later I was passed out from exhaustion.
*Next morning *
The sun made its way on my eyes making me wake up groaning. I stretched out my back before sitting up trying to communicate with my surroundings. I reached for my phone to see the time. 7 am.
I got up headed towards the kitchen with just my sweats and my white sports bra so I could make some coffee. I put on sonder so I could settle my peace for the morning before my run. As the coffee pot was ready I poured me a cup and placed it back on its base. I could live just from coffee bro. It’s the love of my life.
As I turned around I almost jumped out of my skin as I saw Nika. “Hey. Woah you scared the shit out of me” I said laughing making her smile at my statement. “You got us to the bed last night?” She asked pouring some coffee for her as well. “Yes ma’am” I answered taking a sip before resting against the island in the middle of the kitchen.
“Well thank you. You don’t know how many times I’ve fallen asleep on that couch and when I woke up I could not even turn my head” she said as I nodded already knowing about the sofa doom. “Yeah you’re talking to an expert at that. I always somehow end up sleeping on the couch anywhere I am and well. Let’s say I ain’t in a good mood the next morning. The only thing that can change it is either sex or pancakes. No in between” I answered honestly making both of us laugh.
Silence fell as the morning tiredness creeped in. So we just sat on the island sipping on our cups thinking whatever we wanted. This is nice. I like this peace.
Caitlin Clark X Reader
Out of Frame Part 2
There’s a new hire shadowing you today…something about seasonal support for social media output, extra content now that the Fever are getting national attention. You hadn’t asked for help, but you’re polite about it, showing him the ropes. You’re patient, like always. Soft spoken. Encouraging.
And Caitlin hates him immediately.
She doesn’t even know his name. Just that he’s tall, fresh out of some communications program and absolutely useless with a camera. She can tell by the way he holds it…like it’s just equipment. Like he doesn’t care what he’s capturing.
But you’re kind to him. Too kind. Laughing at his awkward jokes. Walking him through the camera settings with that focused voice Caitlin’s heard a hundred times…usually when you’re beside her, mic clipped to her jersey, soft fingers brushing her collarbone.
Now those fingers are on his wrist, adjusting the lens grip. And Caitlin has to look away.
She doesn’t approach you during shootaround. Doesn’t trust herself to sound normal.
You’re there, camera slung across your chest, bouncing between angles. The new guy’s following behind, asking questions he should’ve Googled. You’re still smiling.
Caitlin hits three threes in a row and you don’t notice.
She does it again, louder this time, sneaker squeaks and net snaps echoing…but your back is turned, adjusting exposure with him beside you.
Her stomach twists.
After practice, she lingers in the locker room, earbuds in but no music playing. She watches through the open door as you pack your gear. You laugh at something the guy says again, nudging him with your shoulder.
It hits her like a punch.
Because she’s spent weeks trying to find excuses to stand near you. To say just enough without giving everything away. She’s memorized your expressions, your routines, your laugh. But he’s there..on day one..learning pieces of you Caitlin hasn’t figured out how to ask for.
And the worst part?
You look happy.
Later, when she finds you alone editing a highlight reel in the media lounge, she hesitates in the doorway. Your headphones are on. You don’t see her.
She almost turns around.
But then you glance up. Smile like nothing’s changed. Like her heart hasn’t been clawing at her ribcage all day.
“Hey” you say, warm and familiar. “Wanna help me pick music for this? I can’t decide if I should go hype or cinematic.”
She crosses the room before she realizes her legs are moving.
“I don’t get how you’re so calm after practice,” she says, voice tighter than usual. “I’d be dead.”
You laugh, spinning the laptop toward her. “Built different.”
She smiles, but it doesn’t reach her eyes. You don’t notice.
Or maybe you do…and you’re just too kind to say anything.
You talk through the edit. Your knees brush under the table. Her pulse won’t settle. She tries to act normal, but it’s harder today.
Because today, she realized how replaceable she might be to you.
She wants to ask, do you even see me like that?
She wants to say, I think about you all the time.
She wants to beg, please don’t look at him the way you look at me.
Instead, she says “Is he staying long?”
You glance over. “Who?”
“That new guy. Intern or whatever.”
You shrug. “Not sure. Just here to support. Why?”
She hesitates.
And for a moment, she thinks maybe she should tell you.
Not everything. But something.
Because this…whatever this is…it’s starting to tear at the edges of her focus, her sleep, her calm. And if she waits much longer, she’s going to drown in it.
But then your phone buzzes. A message. You smile at the screen.
She watches you type back, fast. Comfortable.
The moment slips away.
“Just wondering” she mutters.
And she leaves before she can ruin it.
That night, she drafts another message:
“It’s not nothing, what I feel when I’m around you.”
“Do you see me, or am I just another player in your lens?”
“Tell me I’m imagining this. Or don’t.”
She doesn’t send it.
She stares at it for an hour, thumb hovering over the send button. Rereads every word until they blur, until she can’t tell if they’re too much or not enough.
Because what if she’s wrong?
What if the smile you give her isn’t special? What if the softness in your voice isn’t for her, just part of who you are?
What if she says something and breaks whatever this is…this fragile, unspoken thing that makes you look up when she walks into a room, that keeps you sitting next to her when everyone else has gone home?
What if she ruins the only version of closeness she’s allowed to have?
So she backspaces.
Slowly. Line by line. Until the message is blank again, like it never existed.
She tosses her phone on the nightstand and rolls onto her back, staring at the ceiling like it might give her answers.
The apartment is dark, quiet.
Too quiet.
She keeps thinking about your laugh. The one you gave him earlier, easy and unguarded. And how close you stood. The way your eyes crinkled at something he said.
She tells herself she has no right to be jealous.
But jealousy doesn’t care about rights.
It lives in her chest now…tight and loud and impossible to ignore. It colors everything. It makes her doubt every moment she thought was something. Every glance, every smile, every lingering second where she swore she felt you feel it too.
And underneath it all is that same helpless thought…
She doesn’t know if you want her back.
She doesn’t know if she ever stood a chance.
So she does what she always does when she doesn’t know what to do…she writes it down.
Half thoughts. Feelings. A mess of sentences scrawled in her Notes app:
“She looks at me like I’m more than just a jersey sometimes.”
“I think I’d burn everything just to hear her say my name like that again.”
“Is it possible to fall for someone without ever touching them?”
It’s pathetic. It’s real. She saves it anyway.
And when she finally falls asleep, hours later, her phone is still face up on the pillow beside her.
Just in case you text.
Just in case you already know.
