Neal’s gone: there is no part of Emma that is capable of accepting that, not at all, not a little bit, and despite David’s arm around her, and Mary Margaret making her hot chocolate and trying, trying so hard, to be mom and dad for her, it doesn’t go down any easier.
That night, she goes for a walk. She walks all the way to Granny’s, gun in her hip holster in case Tamara makes an appearence, and into Neal’s hotel room. She needs something - she always has and she always will - to remember him by. She needs a way of keeping him with her and she, stupid child that she was, threw away the necklace.
She’s looking for something personal, a photo or a dreamcatcher, a keepsake. Instead, she moves aside a pillow - it smells like him, oh god it smells like him and he’s gone, dead and in the wrong world and too far away from her, and she can’t fight her tears anymore - and finds that same necklace. The same one she’d thrown in his face in New York. The same one that had always and would always be her connection to him: her reminder that, once, he had loved her more than anything.
