so the 'tism 'tism'd, and i ended up thinking about what bugs the fnf cast would be in hollow knight. and where they all came from. and where they all are as of the events of the game. so uhhh... here's the results of that!
HOLLOW KNIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
So, first, let's start with what bugs the cast are! (not all of these ideas are mine, a lot of them were suggestions from people i talked to while i 'tism'd)
Boyfriend is a beetle of some sort - like the ones you see in the Crossroads. I dunno exactly what kinda beetle he'd be? But he's a beetle. Basic-ass beetle. Probably has the prohibition symbol on his shell.
Daddy Dearest is... whatever Grimm's species is. A friend told me he's a vampire moth?
Mommy Mearest is a mantis - she mainly resembles the three Mantis Lords, though she does have a bit of Traitor Lord mixed in there too to differentiate.
Girlfriend is a hybrid of her parents' species. How does that work? Your guess is as good as mine! Try not to think about it too hard.
Pico and Otis are both bees- specifically anthropomorphic ones, sorta like Hive Knight!
Darnell is a bombardier beetle. Lil' fucker will melt you with quite literally boiling-hot acid.
Nene is a mantis, resembling the adults seen around Mantis Village, though not quite as tall.
Captain/Tankman is a wasp, also anthropomorphic like Hive Knight.
Monster is... whatever the fuck Nosk is. Some kind of spider, I think? I dunno. Regardless, he likely pulls the same tricks Nosk does, and perhaps even more.
Pump is an anthropomorphic mosscreep! Lil' guy. Lil' fella. Creature. Friend-shaped.
Skid is a vessel. Funnily enough, this means the alive/dead status of both of their parents is the same! Their dad's still dead, and their mum's still alive!! Though uh. I don't think their mum can be very present in their life like Lila is.
Senpai is one of the City of Tears nobles- specifically, I imagine he'd be based on a Husk Dandy, probably with some traits taken from a Husk Cowardly Husk as well.
Spirit is a moth! You'll see why later in the post.
And now, for the maps! First off, here's the map of their locations of origin- these are all mostly obvious, given what kinds of bugs they all are.
So yeah. Most of that should have been pretty obvious. But now for the map of where they are as of the events of the game!!
And now, some miscellaneous notes!!
Tankman is in the Glowing Womb room because there's a background object in that room labelled "deepnest_blur_hive" in the files- so I decided to make that a wasp hive! He's the leader of the hive - or at least, he was.
Spirit gets sealed into Senpai's dreams before the events of the game. Dream Nail'ing Senpai would do... something. I dunno exactly what right now.
Senpai's in the Pleasure House spa room because he's hiding from all the infecteds outside lmao
Dearest and Mearest conquered part of the left side of City of Tears - probably somewhere in the background you can't actually go in the base game - before the events of the game.
If these guys were to be modded into the game, then Pico, Darnell, Nene, Otis, and Captain would all be in similar states to Sly and Bretta when you first find them. When you wake them up, they'll head up to Dirtmouth, just like the other two.
HOWEVER! Waking Pico up isn't as simple as the rest - you'd have to actually fight Pico in the Palace Grounds. Once you beat him up enough, he'll snap out of it, though you could probably kill him if you kept attacking.
BF and GF are probably recurring NPCs that follow you throughout your adventure. I dunno where exactly all their encounters would be, but I know you'd be able to find 'em around from time to time.
Dearest and Mearest might be a bossfight? Maybe? I dunno.
Monster would probably only appear in the Nosk area after Nosk's been defeated and you've rested at a bench, and he'd lead you into some rooms that don't exist in the basegame before trying to kill you. He'd probably run away if you got him low enough, but if you act fast, you might be able to still kill him? Him running away would still count as a win for you, though.
Skid and Pump would be found in various places across the map - though mostly in the four areas that were split from Big Fungal during development (Fungal Wastes, Greenpath, Fog Canyon, & Queen's Gardens)

I still dye my hair vivid colors. I’m still surprised you let me dye it pink in high school lol.
I have some facial piercings. I don’t think you’d like them, but they’re cute. Trust me.
We moved! A few hours upstate, near a city that you made a goofy joke about once and I think about all the time.
I had pet hedgehogs and you would have thought they were neat. 🦔 We have a dog now and you two would definitely be cuddle buddies.
Speaking of “we,” I got married. It was a courthouse wedding, like yours. 💐
For our honeymoon, we went to Japan. You would have liked going there for vacation, even though you were more into cruises.
A little different from the others, but they made movies for The Hobbit. I still haven’t finished reading the book, but now I understand why killing Smaug wasn’t the end of the story, haha.
Our Halloween decorations were in the local newspaper. They were just dressed up skeletons, but fame is fame. 😎
I have a job I love. It’s not in healthcare (like you wanted) or a direct result of going to college, but it’s fulfilling and makes me happy. You sit on my desk, so you probably know this already. I hope you’d be proud.
It took me a while to stop crying when certain songs played on the radio. I didn’t expect “Maggie May” to do me in as frequently as it did. 🙃
