New Report Says Severity Of Physical Hate Violence Against LGBT People Increased In 2013

There were 2,001 reported incidents of anti-LGBT violence and 18 anti-LGBT homicides in the U.S. in 2013, according to the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Program.

In its 2012 report, the FBI recognized 1,376 victims of hate crimes targeted due to their sexual orientation - 19.6 percent of all hate crimes reported. The National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs (NCAVP) reported that 2013 saw a 21% increase in reports of physical hate violence toward LGBT people - noting that people of color and transgender people are disproportionately targeted. NCAVP reported that 90% of all LGBT homicide victims were people of color, and 72% of homicide victims were transgender women.

The National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs released its annual report on violence against the LGBTQ community and it shows that the overall number of reported hate crimes is still way too high. People of color, transgender people, and gender non-conforming people continued to experience higher rates of homicide in 2012. LGBTQH people of color represented 53% of total reported survivors and victims of all hate crimes, but 73.1% of homicide victims. Black and African-American people were particularly overrepresented in the homicide rates: over half of reported hate murders had Black or African-American victims, even though Black and African American people made up only 15% of total survivors and victims of hate crimes overall.

You can download the PDF at the link provided.  There is good news as well overall hate crimes are down 15% from 2010-2011.  I have a feeling that 2012 is going to be a increase though, election years are always the worse.
