can you write an ncis fan fic where the team goes to the beach or something but like make it ellick centered???
At first I wasn't sure if I was gonna do this one, since I primarily write Tiva. But I do love me some Ellick, so here's my first attempt at an entirely Ellick centered fanfic:
Thanks for the prompt, anon! I hope you like the direction I took with it!
Pairing: Nick Torres x Ellie Bishop
It seemed to be relatively common to have a case overlap with the Coast Guard's jurisdiction. Ellie supposed it wasn't all that surprising, considering NCIS dealt with sailors...they were bound to have some form of a relationship with CGIS.
This week had been one of those cases. After 2 unidentified bodies washed up on the beach, both Gibbs and CGIS Agent Abigail Borin's teams were called up to investigate.
The summer air was suffocating as they first arrived at the crime scene, but not enough to tempt Ellie to jump in the ocean to cool off. Ever since she had saved Morgan Burke from drowning in a pond, and risking the same fate for herself, she had become extremely cautious around water. That new development became painfully clear a few months back after spending a day trapped on a submarine.
But now, she was happy to stay a comfortable distance away from the coastline as she interviewed the witnesses who had found the bodies. Torres and McGee could handle collecting the evidence that was being tossed onto the beach from the turbulent waves. She was just fine on dry land, thanks.
Jimmy rushed to get the bodies situated in his vehicle, racing against an incoming thunderstorm. Soon enough, the team was safely back at headquarters, beginning to dig into their new case.
A few more rainy days passed, some of which involved various members of the team making return trips to the crime scene. Ellie knew it was only a matter of time before she was ordered to search the sand for whatever missing lead Gibbs was demanding this time.
She hadn't, however, expected Torres to offer to go with her.
Before she knew it, they were driving down the highway toward the coast, sun shining and Nick's music blasting. He seemed to sense that Bishop was not in the mood to talk, so he contented himself to sing along with the Spanish songs on the radio.
Undoubtedly, It was a beautiful day, but Ellie was not looking forward to digging around in the sand while knee-deep in the water. She also knew that her reason for her hesitation was ridiculous, so she didn't even bother with explaining it to anyone else. She was fine. She made it out of that pond, AND that submarine, with no problem at all. So letting her fear affect her work was not an option. She just sucked it up and followed orders.
Nick put the car in park and slid out of the driver's seat. Ellie mimicked his actions, though she lacked the focus he had as they slung their backpacks over their shoulders. Nick smoothly placed his sunglasses over his eyes and started marching toward the shore.
"I'll get the right hand side, by that big piece of driftwood over there," Torres stated, "That's where Petty Officer Stokes was found. You can get the left side, and we'll meet in the middle."
Ellie looked over to the left at the jagged formation of rocks where their other petty officer was found. An uncomfortable feeling settled in the pit of her stomach, but she nodded and made her way to the rocks as Torres started off in the other direction.
Ellie sat her backpack against the largest of the rocks before starting on the task at hand.
Okay. She could do this. Just look for anything they might have missed before and get out of there. She picked up a few things that had washed ashore since their last visit. Even if they were unrelated to the case, it was worth bringing them back to the lab to test.
Slowly, the search led Bishop out into the water. She was ankle deep in the foam when she noticed the missing life jacket caught on one of the rocks about 15 feet in front of her. The bullet wound on this particular victim had contained traces of a fiber that Kasie had identified as material from a life jacket. Ellie knew this was a vital piece of evidence, so she steeled herself to take a step further out into the sea. But when she tried to make a move, she was unable to. It was like her brain had decided against communicating with her limbs all of a sudden, and she was left staring off at the distant horizon.
"Hey, Bishop. Find anything?" Torres called out as he swaggered across the beach. When she didn't even acknowledge that she had heard him, he tried again. "Ellie?" he said gently, wading out into the water to stand beside her. "You okay?"
Bishop finally shook herself out of the trance, turning to meet Nick's eyes briefly before nodding and glancing back at the beach. "Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine," she said unconvincingly.
For whatever reason, Torres allowed that response to slide. "Is that evidence?" he asked, nodding toward the life preserver bobbing up and down in the waves. Even though they were much calmer than the first day, they still felt like a tsunami to Ellie. Anxiety had turned her senses up to 11. Focusing on anything was next to impossible here, standing in the water. So deceptively beautiful. Hiding the danger and fear it holds inside.
"You know, Gibbs will never know if we spend a little extra time out here," Torres commented as he pulled his shirt off and tossed it back on the sand. Ellie stole a glance at her partner, not entirely sure where he was going with this. "You up for nice swim, Bishop? Make a beach day out of it?"
Ellie wracked her brain for ways to get out of this somehow, but kept coming up empty. Nick was already halfway to the rock by the time she answered. "I don't have a swimsuit," she said as an excuse, hoping he would accept her response.
No such luck. "Yeah, but you always pack a change of clothes in your backpack," he countered. "Come on, this is like, the perfect day for chilling at the beach. No one will know if we spend part of the afternoon relaxing in the ocean." Ellie wasn't convinced, so he kept going, swimming his way back toward her with the last piece of evidence in hand as he spoke. "Besides, who knows when the next chance to go on vacation will be?"
Ellie sighed. "Fine, but...I'm just gonna lay on the beach for a bit." She watched as Torres shot her a strange look from where he stood placing the life jacket in a bag.
Without another word he rejoined her in the water, standing so close she could practically smell the seawater on his skin. He took a deep breath of the fresh ocean air and moved to sit down, right there in the water. "Sit with me," he suggested, gazing up at Bishop.
Somehow, with him the idea didn't seem so scary. He reached a hand up and took hers, lightly tugging her down so that she was seated beside him. Once she was situated, he leaned back a little, stretching his feet out in front of him and propping himself up with his arms behind him. Ellie felt how close his arm was to her back, and she wondered if he realized the proximity he had just placed them in. Perhaps it was intentional. Either way, his closeness had a calming effect on her, and she allowed herself to relax. The waves rolling over her feet and legs admittedly felt wonderful. Not for the first time, Ellie wondered if Nick realized how good he was at easing her fears and anxieties.
Just as she was falling back into a pensive state, a splash of water hit her from the right side, and she turned to stare at the suspected culprit, shock and amusement playing on her face. "Did you just splash me?" she asked, affronted, only to be met with a cheeky grin. Her accusation confirmed, she splashed him back, earning a full laugh from Torres.
"Oh, you're on, Bishop," he teased, eyebrows raised as he cupped his hands and sent a huge wave of water splashing at Ellie.
Her jaw hung open in disbelief, water dripping down her face and slightly saturating her golden hair.
As Ellie prepped her next attack, Torres scurried further into the ocean to escape. Ellie followed behind, hardly noticing when she was halfway submerged in the water.
A huge grin spread across Nick's face. "Come on, babe, you wouldn't do that," he said as Bishop prowled closer, a devious look on her face. She wasn't sure when him calling her "babe " had become a common thing, but it surprised her to find that she didn't mind.
As she sent the water flying in his direction, he ducked under the oncoming wave. Immediately, Ellie's playful mood disappeared.
"NICK?" she called out in alarm, her reaction a knee-jerk response to seeing him go beneath the surface. Not a second later, he popped back up and rushed to Ellie's side.
"Hey, I'm okay, I'm okay," he reassured quickly. Placing his hands on her waist, his eyes met hers and she saw truth in them. He was okay. How did he seem to know exactly what she was thinking?
To answer her unspoken question, Nick wiped a strand of wet hair out of Ellie's face and spoke gently. "You're thinking about when you almost drowned," he stated.
Bishop shook her head, fighting back against what they both knew was the truth. "I didn't almost drown," she fired back.
Torres' solemn face fell. "Yeah, but you could have." Bishop didn't know what to say to that, so she stayed silent. "It scared me too," he added.
Ellie turned her face away from her partner and looked back out to the sea. Nick dropped his hands from her arms and followed her gaze out to the horizon.
"It's stupid," Bishop finally spoke, "I shouldn't be so afraid of the water. I'm a Federal Agent. I face down dangerous situations every day..."
"It's not stupid," Torres interrupted. "We're all afraid of something."
Bishop's brows furrowed and she turned to look at him. "What are you afraid of?" she asked after a moment.
Nick seemed to think for a while before answering. "Oh, I'm a big scaredy cat," he joked, eliciting a small laugh from Bishop. "Spiders, heights...chihuahuas" he added, clearing making things up if the look on his face told her anything.
She shook her head. She should have known he wouldn't seriously admit something like that.
"I'm scared of losing...the people I care most about," he finally said, his voice so low that it was almost a whisper. When she saw the look in his eyes, her breath caught in her throat. The way he was looking at her meant so much more than what he had said. Almost like he was scared of losing...her. His features softened, telling her that, yes, what she was thinking was exactly right. She smiled in return, letting him know that she felt the same.
Now was not the right time to discuss what they both knew they felt, but they were close.
"Come on," Torres said, breaking the tension as he sunk back into the water. "We can look out for each other, yeah?"
Ellie bit her lip and nodded, joining him down in the water. She hesitantly looked around herself, as if she wanted to make sure nothing would hurt her.
Nick surprised her by grabbing her hand and holding it tight. All of a sudden, all fear and anxiety left her mind. He pulled her closer in the water, earning a smile of contentment.
"See? Wasn't this a good idea?" he asked.
Bishop nodded, "Beats working in the office," she said with a laugh.
Their two hands joined, Nick pulled Ellie closer to him, as the sounds of the waves hitting the beach filled their ears. His eyes met hers, and with little warning he closed the distance between them, pressing his lips to hers.
The sea swelled around them, the sun kissed their skin, and in that moment everything was perfect.
When they pulled apart, not a word was spoken. Both agents hid their brilliant smiles, Ellie's cheeks tinged with a rosy red.
"We should probably get back," Nick finally said.
"Yeah," Bishop immediately agreed.
Back at the office, after changing clothes, Bishop and Torres strolled into the bullpen.
"What happened to you two? Ya fall in?" Gibbs asked, noting their wet hair
Bishop supposed he was correct, in a way. Though it wasn't the water that they fell in.
"In a manner of speaking," Nick answered, sharing a look with Ellie.
Gibbs shook his head, but didn't ask any further questions.
Thanks for reading! I may post this on AO3 and fanfiction.net at some point.
Also, I typed this entirely on my phone last night, so apologies for any errors.
