Metrolink and Coaster - downtown San Diego
A Metrolink transit set making a rare visit to the downtown San Diego Santa Fe Station. The trainset was on loan to Amtrak who had some of their own equipment in the Northwest. A Coaster train sits to the right waiting for its next northbound departure.

It may be cloudy, but even the absence of sunlight wasn't enough to dull the glossy new paintwork on these Bombardier bilevels and Siemens SC-44 Chargers.
These were taken on two separate gloomy days in Oceanside in mid and late December 2020. Both were Coaster test train and both were double-headed by Chargers.

North County Transit District (NCTD) Coaster new phase 2 livery paint scheme on bombardier bi-level coach 2402 (with F40PH-2C 2104 employed in switching duty). 2402 was originally purchased for Coaster NCTD in 1994 and has remained in service since Coaster premiered in early 1995.”
Short video by James Reilly, showing Coaster F40PHM-2C 2104 on switching duty in the Stuart Mesa yard. Shows off the sleek new 2020 livery vs the timeless 1994 livery. The F40 is looking rather faded and weathered. The five F40′s are older than the Coaster service by a couple decades, but remain in service due to their remanufacture in the ‘90s by Morrison-Knudsen. Now beyond the end of their service life, they (plus two F59PHI’s) are set to be replaced by Siemens SC-44 Charger locos in the fall of 2020. So a new coat of paint in the Phase 2 livery is out of the question for all seven, for now.
Don’t think that 26 year old BBL has ever been so shiny! Could almost see the reflection of the facility buildings on the coach’s side.

From left to right: Siemens SC-44 Charger #5001 (in an unfinished livery, five units on order plus two pending funding), EMD F59PHI #3002, M-K F40PHM-2C #2005 (the five F40PH's are set to be replaced by the new Chargers).
UPDATE: Turns out, that's the full 2020 Coaster livery the Charger is sporting.
As a cool summer breeze sweeps in, Coaster F40PHM-2C No. 2101 powering a typical commuter train speeds on past the beaches of California's coast. Today, the F40PHM-2Cs have been retired in favor of the new SC-44 Chargers.
