“Don’t fight!”
A commoner yelled at the two knights fighting in front of his pastry shop. The reason behind the fight? Simple.
Two men were drunk and both of them fought over the last mug of beer. Knights aren’t always shining. Majority of them were reckless and violent against one another.
That’s why Taeyong gave up his thirteen years of training in the palace. He gave it all up because his clean and elegant reputation meant more to him than being a corrupt knight.
Before the other knight could’ve punched the other, Taeyong snatched the mug from one’s hands and chugged every amount of beer in it.
“There! I finished it.”
Taeyong was pissed off. It was barely late at night and he was about to sleep after long hours of work!
One of the knights turned away and walked while words are angrily coming out of his mouth. The other knight stayed, his eyes making its way up and down Taeyong’s appearance.
“Name?” “Taeyong.” “…Mine’s Yuta. Do you wanna have a good time?”
Taeyong was even more pissed. His patience was getting thinner each second while staring at Yuta’s face with such fuel. He stared at Yuta for a bit before turning to look at his pastry shop.
He made his way inside, the knight always interrupting his every step.
“Taeyong! Taeyong, I’m asking you a damn question-“ “The store is closed, sir. Come again.”
Taeyong gave Yuta the fakest smile he has ever given anyone, expressing his annoyance towards him. He shuts the curtains closed, hearing such words coming out of Yuta’s mouth.
“Ugh! One day, I’ll regret meeting you!”
…
Three days after the incident, Taeyong was doing quite well with his pastry shop. Afternoon came and he baked more to attract more customers in buying his delicious baked goods. Taeyong was tired because he always worked alone.
This sudden moment made Taeyong wonder about his future. Will he have kids? Will he even have a wife? He still wasn’t sure.
He’s already twenty-five years old, that’s why he kept on worrying about these things.
Then, that one prideful knight comes back. His eyes widened as he hid himself behind the wall at the right side of the window.
“What’s he doing here?!”
Taeyong whispered, fully annoyed and fueled.
Surprisingly, Yuta wasn’t drunk this time.
“Sir? Sir?”
Yuta called Taeyong in such a mannerly way that Taeyong doesn’t believe that those words came out of Yuta.
He took a deep breath before stepping to the side, making himself visible for Yuta to see him.
“Hi.” “…Don’t you remember anything?” “… Uh… No?”
Taeyong sighed, he was happy enough that he’s the only one who remembers the incident.
“Okay, so… Do you have that type of bread? Like the one you give a girl and such?”
Of course, Taeyong had that type of bread.
“Two silver pieces and a gold one should do it.” “Oh… Sure…”
Yuta wasn’t really wild. He was a bit shy and he looks like he knows what he’s doing most of the time.
“Here’s the bread. See you again, sir.”
Now, Taeyong showed Yuta his actual smile. Even though Yuta annoyed him in the past, Taeyong still knows how to show his love towards his customers.
Around that time, a certain trend was going on. You do the trend when you’re in love with someone and when you also want to ask a girl for their hand in either being in a relationship or a full-on marriage.
You give a type of bread to your special someone every day for thirty days straight. Each day having different flavors of that certain type of bread.
That type of bread was called “사랑 빵” or “Love Bread”.
Most girls say their answers after the first week but some say their answers after the thirty day period.
‘How can he say that he wanted to give me a good time when he’s crushing on someone else? Ugh, boys.’, Taeyong thought.
This was the start of the first week.
…
“Sir, do you have a girlfriend or a wife at the moment?” “Me? No.”
Despite Taeyong’s prince-like appearance, Taeyong never had a girlfriend. He was so focused on training for thirteen years that he just never had one. Now, he still doesn’t have a girlfriend because of his schedule and choice of work.
“Damn, I could’ve asked you for tips or something.” “Sir, it’s been five days. Give the girl some time!” “Time doesn’t work on boys, sir.” “Then, you better be a man and work for time!”
Yuta was caught off-guard.
“… Good point.”
…
It was the fourteenth day and there was still no response from the woman Yuta likes.
“No response?”
Taeyong asked and Yuta sadly shook his head in anwer. The two of them became somehow close even though Yuta doesn’t even remember Taeyong’s name. Yuta frequently comes by the shop and he was really friendly towards Taeyong.
“You’ll get that response sometime.”
Taeyong cheered him up as he went in his pastry shop and his made his way to the kitchen while Yuta waited outside. He comes back with bread and wine in his hands, ready to give it all to Yuta.
“What’s that for?”
Yuta asked, he was timid but also curious about Taeyong’s sudden actions. Taeyong smiled before replying,
“These are for you. I know we’re not really friends but you’re the only customer who treats me like one so…”
Taeyong hands Yuta both the bread and wine while avoiding to look at Yuta’s face, clearly embarrassed. Yuta sighed as he replied,
“These aren’t for me only. Let’s eat together.”
Yuta was really nice and gentle, his eyes even sparkled when he was saying those words. Taeyong smiled at Yuta, appreciating his generous response towards him.
They ate together during his one hour break before his night shift.
“May I ask you a question?” “Sure.” “What’s your name?” “Taeyong. You?” “Mine’s Yuta.”
…
It was the nineteenth day and there was still no response. After the night he ate with Taeyong, Yuta felt weird when he doesn’t show up to Taeyong after giving the “Love Bread” to the girl he likes.
He just felt that everything will be just fine if he showed up to Taeyong after all the hardcore training and all the courting stuff he has done for the day.
He doesn’t even know why he feels like this.
“Hey, Yuta! I baked some biscuits!”
Yuta heard Taeyong’s voice clearly despite all of these thoughts surrounding him in his head.
Once again, they ate together but Yuta was very silent.
“Ah, Yuta! Why are you so quiet?” “… Taeyong.”
Yuta sounded so serious that Taeyong’s entire mood changed quickly.
“Is it possible… for a man… to love a man?”
Taeyong felt nervous at the conversation Yuta started.
“Like brother to brother? Father to son? Uncle to nephew type of love?” “No…” “Then… What type?”
Yuta didn’t answer Taeyong’s question. He just didn’t know what or how to answer. He proceeded to change the subject from questioning his sexuality to baking biscuits instead. Taeyong doesn’t even know how to react to the fast pacing of topics.
…
It was the twenty-fifth day and Yuta’s confusion grew even bigger.
The more time he spends with Taeyong, the more time his attachment to him became stronger. Just seeing Taeyong in general makes him feel confused with his own feelings. He doesn’t even know who to choose between the two people.
The girl he liked for so long? Or the man he just met at a random pastry shop?
Then, he saw that same girl he liked… She was already with a different knight.
Of course, he was so hurt but it was not because he loved her. It was because she broke his trust. There was literally five days left before she tells Yuta her response. She could’ve said no to him earlier but she only played with his feelings.
Yuta dropped the twenty-fifth loaf of bread on the ground as he ran away. He felt so played. Tears started streaming down his face. He felt so broken and he knows where he would finally go.
‘Oh, no… I love him.’, Yuta thought as he kept on running.
He made his way to Taeyong’s pastry shop, literally sprinting.
But… it was closed?
People were staring at Yuta, giving him weird looks. It was because Yuta was literally kneeling in front of the closed pastry shop, crying hysterically.
Taeyong closed the shop temporarily because he needed to buy ingredients. He finally came back and he wasn’t expecting to see a crying Yuta kneeling in front of his shop.
Taeyong ran to Yuta, placing the bags on the counter outside.
“Yuta, what happened?”
Taeyong held Yuta’s face full of tears. Yuta took deep breaths before he could even reply.
“It is possible.”
Yuta smiled before cupping Taeyong’s face, kissing him in the process. He didn’t care about the people judging him because he was a knight who is in love with a man. People kept staring. Mothers covered their children’s eyes. They had no right to judge a knight for loving someone.
Because there was no rule that a knight shouldn’t love a man but there is a rule that a knight should serve and love the people of the kingdom.
Taeyong’s eyes widened, he clearly didn’t know how to react at what Yuta did. Then, he finally realized that it was what Yuta felt for him. Taeyong also realized that he loved Yuta like this, too.
His arm wrapped around Yuta’s waist as he closed his eyes, pulling Yuta closer and accepting both of their feelings for each other. Yuta pulled away from the kiss, expecting Taeyong to say something.
“…” “… Can you at least say something?” “… I love you, too.”
Taeyong smiles as he pulls Yuta into a more meaningful and passionate kiss as a response.
