THINGS THAT ARE HARD TO HEAR

Mabel frowns at the answer, but she bites her tongue to stop herself from instantly arguing back. Dipper's adamant tone is what is bothering her the most, even if she won't easily admit it. It makes her feel like her brother is shutting her out and that's something she has always hated.

She is aware that their lives are fated to diverge at some point. They are different people, with different interests, goals, dreams. Yet, she has always thought that, no matter what, she would have found a way to make sure that they would remain a big part of each other's existence. They are twins, after all, that's how it's supposed to work.

Or, at least, that's what she used to believe when she was younger. These days, every time she and Dipper argue, that belief gets weaker and weaker.

"I don't get why it's such a big deal," she ends up grumbling, crossing her arms over her chest and turning her head to look away. She looks like a petulant child and she knows it, but it's better than showing how truly hurt she. "This school is just as good as that other one. It just has less...medals or whatnot! But who cares about that!"

Her twin cares, that's very much obvious. She understands it...sort of. He's smarter than most, he has worked his ass off to get accepted and it's one of his dream colleges, if not the dream college.

Maybe she's being selfish, maybe she's asking for too much. Yet, she can't help thinking that compromising should be the fairest decision. After, she too has put a lot of effort, more than she has ever had in school-related stuff, to get into one of Dipper's top picks, so that they could live in the same campus.

And yet there he is, choosing the one college that doesn't have the kind of courses she's interested in. It almost feels like a punishment, like he's still making her pay for something that has happened years before.

It's not the first time that thought has crossed her mind during a fight. It has happened more often than it should have.

"I...Never mind. Just think about it a little longer? Please? I know that we were kids, but we did promise to be at each other's side, no matter what..."

   Nimue's met many people, and remembers many faces, but this face was new to her. She doesn't mean to stare, and she's not sure why she does for a moment or two, but at some point she figures it's best to actually speak.

" Apologies. Uh. Can I help you with something? You don't really seem familiar. Who are you? "

The Soldier often had a wandering mind. For those that passed, for those that knew little enough about him indeed, they might have determined him to be a brooding sort, curious to know if there was an entire well of information stored up in that cranium of his. Of course, just casually looking at someone like that didn’t reveal much of anything. Only the scrunched up way his face retained some semblance of an expression when a thousand thoughts indiscriminately ran through his mind.

Presumably.

The collision with another was the only thing that could possibly jar him back into the present [especially embarrassing for him later when he realized she'd literally been TALKING to him]. Zack was a big guy! It was sort of his responsibility NOT TO PLOW PEOPLE OVER in his journey of fricken walking.

He held out his hands in a gesture of peace, but also, concern, like he could save her from himself entirely.

"I.... am SO sorry!" For being so large, scarred, really looking like a bad sort, the words that came out of his mouth were nothing if not genuine. Expressive. Full of life in their own way. "I was a thousand miles away, how did I not see you???" He slapped a hand against his forehead. "Can I get you a coffee or something?? Now that I ran you flat, might as well finish the tropes up with a drink break or something??" He felt so BAD.

"I mean, it's certainly OK to love, but he might want to pick a better partner. I'm pretty sure Alastor isn't into other people... or he might eat him."

Heat follows his every step but isn't enough to set the carpets on fire, just enough to cause a little steam. It's not something that Lucius really cares about when his anger is burning red hot. Ignorant no more. Oh no, no he knows exactly what had been revealed at that meeting with Heaven and to say it had left him incensed was an understatement.

The snake-tail hisses softly to further express his anger, wings fluttering in agitated motions.

Lucius may not believe in or even care about the sinners... but he cared about his sister. Deeply.

It's no surprise when he finds the door to Charlie's room locked upon arriving, lips pulling into a thin line. Why did everything have to go ass over tits so fast?

A low sigh and the prince brings a hand up to gently rap his knuckles against the door.

"Charlie...?"

He doesn't know if she'd be up to seeing him, or anyone for that matter. But he had to try, right?

   She's sure Vaggie knows the answer to that question, considering how the princess could be. Always putting others before herself, she can handle it, it's no big deal! Others first and then herself. That was how she worked more often than not, and would probably continue to do so.

   There's silence as she listens, expression unreadable as Charlie slowly processes everything she's told. So Alastor was acting strange too .. she had noticed his absences but chalked it up to silently recovering on his own. There's a slight change of expression to hint that she's hurt, just a little bit because more secrets are being kept. Yes, it is a big difference that she's hearing this directly from Vaggie this time instead of an outside source but still.

   There's a cracked smile, forced, not wanting to indicate that she's hurt by all of this and while it hasn't been years .. No matter. They're talking about this now. It's fine, it'll be sorted out. Neither of them will be leaving this room until they do so. She won't run and avoid it like she did after the hearing due to the incoming battle. She'll face it head-on. 

   There's a deep breath as the princess grips at the fabric of her pants, easy does it, be patient and calm. 

. At least he's not dead .. dead. I .. didn't want him to die. I specifically stopped my father because I wanted to show mercy. I wish Niffty hadn't done that, but it's already done and over so we have to put that behind us now. I'm .. surprised to hear that you're talking to him. Vaggie .. you knew I would've tried to offer him a place in the hotel and a chance at redemption. Why'd you keep that from me? Never mind, we'll discuss that later. But I'm glad to hear he has someone to talk to. Especially since .. "

   There's a pause as she shakes her head, perhaps Vaggie already tried to bring Adam to the hotel for all she knew, it's not like she'd purposely hide things from Charlie .. right? Maybe there just wasn't the chance to bring it up with everyone being so busy. 

" I don't .. know what to say about Vox and Alastor, and I'll talk to him about that later. But what's this thing you're talking about? Please, don't hide things from me, if it's something I can help with, tell me. "

Vaggie knows that she's hurting Charlie a little bit more with every word she speaks. The princess is putting on a brave and understanding facade, but she knows her well enough to be able to tell. The awareness tears her up from the inside, makes her sick in the stomach, but she forces herself to ignore the feeling.

She has already disappointed and failed Charlie enough. She has no right to unload her own distress on her. She needs to prove herself worthy. She needs to make up for everything. She needs to earn every second her girlfriend will allow her to spend by her side.

The former Exorcist opens her mouth to say that she, instead, had been glad when Niffty had killed Adam, but she quickly shuts it once again before a single word can leave her lips. Her confused, contradictory feelings for her former best friend aren't something Charlie should be bothered with. They are for her to deal with. Alone.

"I...That's what I'm trying to do. Uh, convincing him to come live with us," Vaggie ends up saying instead, still not meeting the princess's gaze. "I thought, if he can be redeemed, then that's pretty much proof that almost everyone can, you know?"

One of her hands creeps in her hair and she pulls at her white locks hard enough to hurt.

"I was going to get Alastor to make a deal with him, so he'd have to stay once he moves in, even if he changes his mind. And yeah, I know that we can't force people to stay, because it kills the whole point, but he needs...I can't..."

Her voice trails off for a moment. Great, she's rambling again.

"I will not abandon him out there. I won't do to him what he did to me."

It's Vaggie's turn to suck in a calming breath, letting it out slowly as she struggles to collect herself. She hopes that Charlie won't ask her about her true reasons, because she isn't ready to open that can of worms.

"Uh, good luck getting Al to talk. I'm not sure what he's up to, but he's suspiciously tight-lipped about it." Something she likes less and less with every passing day. "As for the...thing, I...it's about getting Adam to stay at the Hotel, but Vox was trying to grab him too, reason why I asked Al for help. And I might might have made a bet on who's getting him. With Vox."

Not her smartest idea.

Normally they said that it would make the teams uneven but he knew that wasn't true. People were wary of after the stuff with King a few years ago and things hadn't been going so well with making friends ever since.

Oh! But now there was someone else that was being left out of teams and group activities. It was a fresh new school year and he was new and looked sort of lonely so Drake decided to share one of his passions and make friends. "Elmo? It's nice to meet you!" He smiled as he sat beside him. The memory fading as the exact details of their conversation faded with time...
