Quickie for this special day. Eastern Sorcerers have had ways of speaking with the dead for longer than time has been recorded, but it is only possible with one's ancestors.
A rough little map of the world all the necromancer and crusader stuff takes place in. Tis a dead world, with vast swathes of uninhabited land...
"Ew, for you? Twenty percent more. And make it quick It's cold out here."
I forgot I hadn't posted this here yet! Geoffrey's early adulthood was rough. As the firstborn male of the current Rosenthal generation, he was on set to become the family's monk. How quickly your world can be destroyed...
Really like FUNGER so I drew my characters in the first game's style of lineup, NOW IN COLOR!
Quick bios on our "Heroes"
Adolf Hainzart: He had once intended to live peacefully as a carpenter, but undead aggression saw his home village in ruin. The last man of his clan, the last tender of Frederick's Grove. He intends to continue the line of tradesmen in his ancestral homeland.
He is xenophobic to the point where even other nations of the Congregatio Fidelium are viewed with suspicion.
Christopher De Rochard: The hidden son of House Rochard, forced into knighthood and bloodied from the wars with heretic men of the north. Christopher holds himself to high standards of honour and nobility. Regretting being associated with peasantry and rabble such as Adolf. He is quite willing to compromise, being the one to forgive filthy Rashtalites if they choose to help the crusade.
Geoffrey Rosenthal: An old and skillful monk. He possesses skills of larceny, acrobatics, and key knowledge of how to truly hurt a human without killing them. He has an extensive education on mathematics, theology and alchemy. Though active and nimble, his puny stature and advanced age make him a fragile and weak combatant.
Afflicted with an overactive sex drive, he must take drugs to suppress it or struggle mentally to contain his urges.
Elizabeth Dorset: Concerned deeply over the state of mortal souls, Elizabeth seeks to gain control over her very own from the Gods. Cursed with knowledge forbidden in even Rashtalite doctrine, morality and ethics are just speedbumps on the path to true freedom.
She disdains most authority, but has an unhealthy love for her former professor...
So here they are, as far present (forward?) in time for this necromancer world as my blog has gotten.
On the subject of necromancer obesity
The rise of necromancy was ultimately, the refutation of aristocracy against the emancipation of all. The dead need not be whipped, fed, watered, cared for, they do not run away nor do they rebel, they simply work to their master's will.
This gave the Cult of Rashtal an edge against the living, who demanded pay for their work and bickered amongst themselves. But lo, a thousand years later and the fruits of wicked endless slavery for the dead wrought a bigger waistline for their progeny.
Ye olden days birthed hardcore Rashtalites, the greatest and most loyal of whom were granted eternal life by the Empress. Their ideals were to end the eternal cycle of life consuming life, sustaining itself needlessly on the pain of others. The newer generations care little for that ideal. Indeed our existence at all a mere byproduct of not having achieved 'our' goal yet. My existence, simply of that to serve and die, and serve again.
So when our lives come from failure and lead to nothing but servitude, where else do we turn? I have known many, men and women, of great girth, and the Empress herself is festering mound of adipose. I too, have become obese. The pleasure of food is but one of the worldly ways we dull the pain of our existential crisis. After all, the dead are going to keep on working whether we eat or not, best get in our fun before we join them.
-Elizabeth Dorset's Memoirs, Circa 979
I'm tied down with a couple projects at the moment, but I did want to share a new character who will hopefully get more stuff soon!
Brother Lawrence
A Culinary Alchemist, his primary interests lie in the realms of brewing and wine making. His current major project is creating the "Millennium Brew" for the upcoming 1000 year reign of Necromancers. Of course, he's starting a few decades early.
Lawrence is a kind man, relaxed and usually somewhat intoxicated. Quick to forgive and assume good intentions.
Crusaders and Necromancer working together?! Things must be dire.
Because of my current FUNGER obsession I've decided to draw my character in the style of the F&H1 party. I thought it fit well. I'm having fun with these.
The Rashtalite Empire
AKA: Rashtal's Terrestrial Domain
The Rashtalite Empire is a theocratic imperialist state headed by the Prophet and Empress Ztrasa, on the ideal of one day transcending the barbaric cycle of life.
This empire covers the majority of the known world, and has destroyed countless human cultures. From western feudalism, republics, and churches, across the steppe cultures, to the far east to the most populous nations known to man. What remains are the fringes of those strong enough to weather the storm, or those lucky enough to have geography and God on their side.
The Rashtalite Empire is pagan in theory, polytheistic, but prioritizing the God of Life and Death Rashtal, and actively undermining the creator of humanity Virdel.
In this empire there is no underclass. The undead are soldiers as they are workers, mindless drones to be commanded. They work the fields, and perform hard labor. They do not complain, rebel, or ever say no. They do not need to rest nor do they need upkeep.
The primary way the Rashtalites took the world was plague. Zombie bites spread an incurable disease known as "Rashtal's Curse", that cannot be cured by magical means. It spreads quickly, with a 2 in 3 fatality rate, creating a field of corpses waiting to be reanimated and repeat the cycle. Modern advancements have made this slightly more difficult, "Barbers" manage the physical effects of the plague and use the laws of nature to defeat and manage it.

The Necromancer Empire lore stuff. Idk I need to get running to work I'll check back later!
