NEDA week 2016 💜September 2012//February 2016💜 The girl on the left thought her struggles were over, her recovery had begun, but really she was just in the beginning of a five year battle. She would wonder why her curls had straightened out, why her nails were so brittle, why her eyes looked so sad. She would wonder when a banana had become so scary, when everything had become so scary, why she had started running in secret, when she had lost her voice, lost herself, why she couldn't love herself. Why perfection meant a body of a 12 year old. She wondered when she decided she didn't deserve nourishment, and when the eating disorder voices would finally stop. The girl on the right has worked hard to be here and knows she has even farther to go. She has her curls back and strong nails and eyes that laugh and is learning to love herself. She can eat cupcakes and not think about them for the next week because they are just cupcakes. She can enjoy being with her friends and loved ones and use her voice and be powerful. The girl on the right isn't perfect, but she is stronger than ever. Eating disorders are no joke, and I wouldn't wish one on my worst enemy. I was lucky to have a family who intervened early and a support system who held me up, and though my path was rocky and long it never was so deep that I couldn't get back up again. I know so many strong and beautiful souls who have gone through this battle themselves, and I think each and everyone is an absolute inspiration for pushing through and finding recovery. This week marks the beginning of National Eating Disorder Awareness Week, and I want each of you to take this time to love yourself. Whether you have struggled with this or another hardship, know that I support you, I believe in you, you are important and strong and you can do anything you put your mind to. Love yourself, you're the only person who can do what you do. #nedaweek2016 #neda #edrecovery #loveyourself
Its National Eating Disorder Awareness week - so here’s a few reminders:
You are beautiful. You are important. You matter. Your worth isn’t defined by a number. You can recover. You have permission to eat. You have permission to be imperfect. You have permission to ask for help. You are enough. You are loved. You are enough. YOU ARE LOVED. YOU ARE ENOUGH.
You are so much more than your eating disorder <3
