After Sour Candy had rehearsed their set, their manager, Roderich, spoke to them.
"Kateryna, I have something I need to tell you." Roderich explains.
"What is it?" Kateryna asks quietly, curling a blonde strand of hair around her finger.
"I've hired a bodyguard for you. It's for your own protection." Roderich smiles.
"Roddy, you know that Mhairi, Shannon and I can protect Katy." Erzsébet smiles at her fiancé.
"Yes, I know the four of you are close, but I don't want anyone hurt." Roderich tells them, "Anyway, I want you to meet Lars."
"You must be Kateryna, Erzsébet, Mhairi, and Shannon." Lars smiles politely.
"Yes, I'm Kateryna." Kateryna smiles back, "Erzsébet is the brunette, Mhairi is the redhead, and Shannon is the strawberry blonde."
"Anyway, Lars is here to protect you from anyone that could harm you, and Gilbert suggested him, so if there are any problems, talk to him," Roderich explains.
"Don't worry, Katy. I know Lars, and he's a great guy. We're both friends with Gilbert." Mhairi smiles.
"And he's Mathias' best friend." Shannon smiles, "You're in good hands."
"Roderich, are you sure this is a good idea?" Erzsébet asks.
"Lars is the best in the business, and both Mhairi and Shannon trust that Kateryna will be safe." Roderich reassures, "Just to let you know that Lars will be living with you, Kateryna."
"Okay." Kateryna smiles softly.
"Don't worry, it'll be like I'm not even there." Lars smiles.
"Yeah, like you won't notice someone that is six foot five and built like a bloody tank." Mhairi laughs loudly.
Lars then glares at Mhairi.
"Sorry, but it's true." Mhairi giggles, and Erzsébet and Shannon both try not to laugh.
"Ignore them." Kateryna smiles at Lars.
Later, after Sour Candy had performed their set, Kateryna hugged her bandmates goodbye before leaving with Lars.
"I have a guest bedroom that you can use." Kateryna explains as she unlocks the door to her three-bedroom apartment, "Is there anything I can get you?"
"Just a glass of water, please." Lars responds, sitting down on the cream couch.
"Sure, and please make yourself at home." Kateryna smiled as she walked into the kitchen.
Kateryna soon emerges from the kitchen with a glass of water for Lars and a box of chocolate chip cookies. Kateryna hands Lars the water and offers him a cookie.
"Thank you." Lars smiles taking a cookie, "So, I need to ask, what has happened for you to need my protection?"
"Well, long story short, my ex-boyfriend threatened me after a messy breakup. It wasn't a great relationship, and he was violent with me. That was why we broke up." Kateryna sighed, trying not to cry, "Roderich has been worried about me for about six weeks, and he's also worried about Erzsébet, Mhairi, and Shannon, as we're so close, and they'll have no qualms about protecting me."
"Kateryna, please don't worry. I'll protect you, and if he tries to hurt you, he has to get through me first." Lars reassures.
"Thank you." Kateryna sobs.
A couple of months later, Sour Candy finished their show when Kateryna's ex-boyfriend, Corey, tried to shoot her. After realising Kateryna's danger, Lars jumped in front of her, pushed her out of the path of the bullet, and took the bullet in his arm for her.
"Lars, are you okay?" Kateryna sobs, holding Lars in her arms.
"Yeah, just a bullet in the arm." Lars laughs it off.
"I know first aid." Mhairi tells them before running off for a first aid kit.
"Lars, I can't believe you would endanger your life for me." Kateryna sobs.
"Katy, I didn't just do it as your bodyguard; I did it because I love you." Lars smiles.
"What?" Kateryna gasps.
"I really do, Katy. You are an amazing woman, and I would do anything to make you happy." Lars smiles at me.
"Oh, Lars." Kateryna smiles and then gently kisses Lars on the lips.
Mhairi returns with the first aid kit and wraps a bandage around Lars' arm.
"You need to hold still." Mhairi scolds, "Katy, can you hold Lars and ensure he doesn't move."
"Right, lovebirds." Erzsébet laughs, "There are two detectives who want to speak to both of you."
"Can you ask them to wait until Mhairi has finished bandaging up Lars' arm?" Kateryna asks.
"Yeah." Shannon smiled as she went out of the room.
Once Mhairi is finished, Shannon returns with two detectives, Mathias and Gilbert.
"Hello." Mathias smiles softly.
"If you don't feel up to answering any questions, please say, and we'll stop." Gilbert smiles at Kateryna and Lars.
"No, we'll be fine." Kateryna smiles.
"So, to let you know that he's been booked into custody and that you're safe." Mathias explains, smiling softly.
"I'm glad." Kateryna smiles as Lars nods.
"So, could you explain your relationship to the shooter?" Gilbert asks.
"Well, he's my ex-boyfriend. It was a volatile relationship, and he was abusive. I left him about six months ago, and he didn't take it so well." Kateryna explains, sobbing.
"So, that was why Roderich asked me if I knew anyone who could protect you, as he never specified." Gilbert sighs, "I'm glad I mentioned Lars to Roderich."
"He's been amazing. The first night, I had night terrors and screamed; when Lars heard, he ran into my room and threatened whoever was hurting me, even if it was just a dream." Kateryna explains, smiling.
"Please don't worry, we'll get you justice." Mathias smiles, "But Gilbert and I need to leave and get back to the station."
"Thank you so much." Kateryna smiles at them.
After Mathias and Gilbert leave, Lars pulls Kateryna into a hug and kisses the top of Kateryna's head.
"How are you feeling?" Lars asks.
"Still in shock." Kateryna starts to sob again.
"Lars, you should go to the hospital to get your wound looked at." Kateryna sobs.
"If you come with me, I'll go." Lars smiles.
"I won't have you go on your own." Kateryna smiles.
The next day, after Kateryna had taken Lars to the hospital, Lars had the bullet removed from his arm and then it was stitched up and bandaged; Erzsébet, Mhairi, and Shannon visited Kateryna's apartment.
"How's the bullet wound?" Mhairi asks, sitting down next to Shannon on the couch.
"I've had the bullet removed, and it's been stitched up." Lars explains, "But Katy's been looking after me, and we're going out for dinner tonight."
"And you're not going as her bodyguard?" Shannon asks, giggling.
"Nope. It's a date." Kateryna explains.
"How exciting." Erzsébet giggles.
"I'm so excited, but we'll take it easy." Kateryna smiles.
"So, where are you going for dinner?" Mhairi asks.
"We're going to the fancy restaurant not far from here." Lars explains, "Kateryna suggested it."
"We love that place." Erzsébet smiles.
"We wanted to check on you both, but we'll let you prepare for your date tonight." Mhairi smiles before leaving with Erzsébet and Shannon.
After Erzsébet, Mhairi, and Shannon left, Lars pulled Kateryna into an embrace, and he felt her relax.
"Are you okay?" Lars asks, concerned.
"I'm fine. I'm just happy to be with you, my hero." Kateryna smiles.
