How do you heal a wound that is constantly torn back open?

How many different ways can you say no?

I don’t want to be touched at ALL now since it seems a pattern across years and across boys that gentle, innocent touches are somehow a promise of more to come. A silent plea for penetration. And when I lose my voice and leave my body (again)? How can I trust myself? How can I expect others to respect my wishes, my body, when I cannot speak up on behalf of myself RIGHT after writing down how I need to set new boundaries? Isn’t that ironic? Or did I fail a cosmic test?

Years later and I still cannot end this cycle. I know I deserve to be held and experience the softness of hands without owing something more in return, but today and yesterday and probably tomorrow I can’t fully believe it because that is not what is taught to me. So once again I will swallow around this heartache and do my work with my head down and let myself drift deeper into daydreams where no one can hurt me. 

I should have recognized the signs. I could have protected myself this time.
