I was reading about Nefertem when I noticed this phrase: "Most noted for helping ease Rā's pain using a blue lotus." Which pain? What happened to Ra? I'm really curious about it >.

Do you have a source from where the quote is from? Without knowing that, I’m going to have to go with my best guess.

My first thought was that Ra’s pain is referring to him getting old, see the Myth of the Destruction of Humanity.

And the blue lotus (Nymphaea caerulea), was used to create perfumes and could have a mildly soperific effect. So it could simply be a reference to an ancient painkiller/sleeping aid.

The blue lotus was used as a symbol of creation, one of the many creation myths stating that the world had formed when a blue lotus grew in the primordial nun. So it could be a reference to the cyclical daily nature of Ra, moving from birth to day during the day.

☀️ But this is all just a stab in the dark, if you’ve got the source for that quote I can see it in context and try to work out exactly to what it is referring.

He couldn’t remember how he ended up here anymore, or how long he had been here.  Too long, he only saw the hand of someone leaving him food daily, but no one stayed to talk to him.  He mumbled to himself and sometimes saw people he wished were really there.  He was almost unresponsive when Atem appeared in the doorway.

Akefia wasn’t always mean to Atem, in fact sometimes he was... soft, almost loving. Sometimes he’d lie with the other held close, chaste kisses being exchanged between the two.

With a smile rarely seen elsewhere, he nuzzled his nose against Atem’s, eyes trained on the other’s before he caught the other’s lips. His eyes remained open as they kissed, hand squeezing one of Atem’s own.

16. a happy kiss.

Akefia was jovial to say the least. He’d had a good day of pilfering from the Pharaoh’s kitchen, was well-fed consequently, and had spent a few hours training. His muscles ached and his mind was alight with a pleasant satisfaction that he’d done enough for one day.

It was getting late when he decided to share his rare joy with the owner and controller of the palace but he’d been kind enough to avoid interrupting Pharaoh Atem’s duties. He skipped up to the man’s chambers and unannounced, grabbed him around the waist, dragging him into a soft, playful kiss. The thief held him there for several seconds, before letting go, small smile playing on his face.
