I found out Olive Cookie's voice actress Negin Farsad wrote a book called How To Make White People Laugh and I'm considering asking my parents if we can get it so I can read it
I discovered it through an article that was basically just an excerpt from this book and. As someone who is also an Iranian-American Muslim I just saw this line and felt something:
"And that’s when it struck me: I wasn’t black, or Mexican or Asian or Russian. I was an Iranian-American Muslim female. To large swaths of the American public, that meant I was a possibly dangerous brown person who potentially sympathized with Al Qaeda or Hezbollah. To other swaths of the American public, I was the kind of person who pronounced “Iran” in a way that didn’t make it sound like a past-tense verb."
Honestly I just adore Olive Cookie's existence just for the fact that we have a character voiced by an Iranian woman in this game I love so much. It's really comforting. Even if everyone hates this character I will forever be grateful for her existence just so I can have something close to representation. And I hope for more characters like that. (I would love to see characters based on Persian foods maybe too-)
anyway I need to ask my parents to get me this book now because I just. Need to read this. It especially feels relevant right now.
