We create a #pictureoftheworld using the #examples that most easily come to our mind. This is #absurd, of course, because in #reality things don’t happen more frequently because we can conceive them more easily. We travel through #life with an incorrect risk map in our heads. Anything silent or invisible we downgrade to not existent in our minds. Our brains imagine show-stopping #outcomes more readily than mundane ones. We think #dramatically, not #quantitatively. If something is repeated often enough, it gets stored at the fore front of our minds. This happens also in #corporatelife, of course! Board members discuss submitted presentations, mostly quarterly figures, instead of more important things - such as a clever move by the #competition, a slump in #employeemotivation or an #unexpectedchange of #customerbehavior. They make #decsions based on this information because the other information isn’t available. It is as if you were in a foreign city without a map, and then pulled out one from your home town and simply used that. We prefer wrong information to no information at all. Fend it off by spending time with people who think differently than you - people whose expertise and experiences are different from yours. #ambiguityaversion #illusionofattention #neglectofprobability #successisntdefinitive #failureisntfatal #youngleaders #makingadifference #changemakers #business #careerplanning #career #inspirational #inspirationalquotes (at Paris, France)
